I have a 10 wk old boxer, he is the joy of my life, except when he plays this new "game" he loves oh so much. When he gets very playful, he latches on to our pant legs and starts pulling, when we say "NO" and try to pry him off, he then starts play biting our hands, and anything else he can reach on us. Clearly this can't be a habit as he gets bigger. I have tried ignoring him, yelling NO in a deep, stern voice, it doesn't phase him. Does anyone know of other techniques we could try to get the point across at his age?
Oh, by the way, we have tried wearing shorts around the house so he ins't tempted, then he just goes for our bare ankles!

I forgot to mention, we also try to give him his chew toys and other toys when he is doing this, but he is not at all interested once he gets going on our pants.

okay had the same problem with my husky when she was smaller. The word NO had to start becomming louder and when that didn't work, unfortunately I had to use a rolled up newspaper and tapped her on the butt and said NO very loudly and veryfirmly. After a few times, she got the message. We did everything else before we did that, the toys, rolled up the sleeves, shorts the whole nine yards. It took the newspaper being rolled up she knew to stop. I'm proud to say, she hasnt' done that in over a year now. Your puppy is young, but still able to learn. If you try this method, it should work for you. If it doesn't, may I suggest checking online for other suggestions. Good luck to you.

I have a 13 week old puppy and we are having similar problems. I read up on it and talked to the vet. I learned that you should yell no, ouch, or both. If the pup doesn't stop it actually says to gentley pick them up by the scruff of the neck for a second because its what a mother dog would do to a misbehaving puppy.
Also, make sure you aren't playing with your dogs mouth, using your hand as a game with him in any way because this will encourage him to snap at hands as a play method.

It sounds like you've tried the usual effective methods, ignoring him, swaping pant legs for toys etc. one thing i can suggest is when he gets aroused to this point and is yanking your pants, keep some really really tasty treats on hand, something he just can't resist (pieces of chicken or something). when he goes for the pants, get his attention with the treats and go through some basic obedience. you don't want to reward him for biting pants obviously, so make sure he does something, like a sit or down, BEFORE he gets the treat! this will redirect his attention and save your pants and fingers! once he's calmed a bit, offer him a rope toy for a game of tug, or something he enjoys chewing on. keep trying to ignore the behavior when you can and not make a big fuss when it happens. yelling no and pushing him off might just seem like a fun part of the game to him. be aware of your reactions, if you get fired up and angry, he'll see that and may get more excited. stay calm (difficult i'm sure when your big puppy is trying to pants you!), grab a treat and get his attention. good luck!

My new puppy is almost 8 weeks and doing the same thing. I have started to hold this chew bone out like I'm playing with him and when he still goes for the hand or pants I say no and give him the chew bone. I keep insisting on giving it to him until lays there very entertained by it.

I agree with the spray bottle filled with water. When he disobeys, just squirt him once or twice, and say no. I have five chihuahuas, and when they misbehave, I give them a squirt, and they suddenly turn into little angels, which they are to me regardless, but I have been doing that for a while, per the vet, and now, most of the time, I don't even need to squirt them anymore, because the second they see the spray bottle, they stop misbehaving. One tip though, When you squirt him, don't get him too wet, because puppies get chilled very easily. Good Luck! Hope this helps a little.

There is a Pressure point behind his jaw where his teeth end and when he goes to grab at you or something of yours just grab that spot and press just till he opens his mouth and can't close it then look at him and say no "firmly" while your holding his mouth and if he goes crazy on you there is a safer spot to grab right behind his ears just hold that spot he will whimper but it's either let him bite you or you bite back now and within a week or two (it all depends on how long he's been doing this) he will stop!

You can try shaking an empty soda can which has a few coins in it to distract him or you can try my favorite which is using a water pistol. Consistently squirting him in the face just as the bad behavior starts will work long enough to get him through this phase.

Have a spray bottle on hand with water. When he does this just yell "no" and spray water in his face. This can also be done with other habits he has that you may not like such as barking.
