You could try and take it to be certified by a Dr or a Minister.
A solicitors will do it of course but charge you.
Double check with the organisation who wants the copy and see what they accept.

If you are in your own country, you can go to your passport office to get one. If you are in another country, you will need to go to your nation's embassy. A copy will cost the same as the original and you cannot usually get a copy if you have the original.

If you just want it to prove identity for a bank or similar you will find the requirements on the form you are filling in.
Easiest is usually counter-signing by a solicitor, accountant etc. who you have known for some time.
Cost depends on how well you know him.
Otherwise its a visit to a solicitor and we all know how much that costs!

My wife and I went the US Post Office and got passports there.
Cost about $65 each.

Do you have a local law centre - they normally do it for free as they are a charity of solicitors who help people in need. (I made a donation anyway) or citizens advice bureau could help.
