Which is more developed, shanghai or hong kong?

Hong Kong by far. One example: the per capita GDP for Hong Kong for 2005 was equivalent to $ 37,400/year; the highest in Asia. That for Shanghai was only $ 5,620, highest on mainland China but only 1/7 or 15% that of Hong Kong!

Shanghai , however, is much larger in area (about 5 times) and and population (twice) and its rate of growth might be higher than that of Hong Kong. It would take a very long time, if ever, for Shanghai to get caught up with Hong Kong though.

For the moment Hong-Kong is But as HK is quite limited on space, it can't develop at a fast rate. Shanghai is on the contrary reducing it's gap. Building are groqing like mushroom and are everywhere.

Hong-Kong subway system is by far more developped than Shanghai's one. But in the future there is no doubt that Shanghai will be the 1st.

I am from hong kong and I would say hong kong is more developed than shanghai. Since hong kong is one of the bussiest import and export terminals around the world. you can imagine hong kong has to catch up to other countries. I would shanghai is catching up hong kong.

Depends on what kind of developments you mean. Hong Kong is much more developed socially and with regard to human rights (even if such developments are now more a matter of public perception that the law) than Shang Hai. However, imho and certainly from the perspective of just a layman, Shang Hai is more developed industrially and on par with Hong Kong from a pure technology standpoint.

That being said, if I were in need of medical aid in one of those two cities, I would want to be treated in Hong Kong.
