my 3 yr old Maltese named destiny is having 5 puppies. i bred her with my 1 yr old male Maltese named Duke on the 11th of novemeber in 2006. when will the puppies be due?

she is already showing milk from her nipples and is having a loss of appetite. i can feel the pups in her so im sure they cant be too far away. i know dogs are usually pregenant for approx. 65 days or 9 weeks but these pups might be due earlier as she is showing continuous pregnancy signs. my male still tries to hump her even when she isnt on her period, why is that?
i did a bit of research on breading before i bred destiny and duke so i am not a insider breeder.
she is very healthy and is not eating much bit i think that is a pregnancy sign. she is also a little bit restless and is always walking around and drinking water. could the puppies come earlier then expected? if so, are their any health risks to desitiny or her puppies? i dont want her to get in pain before her much expected pregnancy birth!

also, i have a 9 month old (neautered) rat terrier male named fred who also humps her, WHY? i thought if i neautered him he would stop humping her, especially while she is pregnant. he also tries to hump my 8 year old speyed female yorkishire terrier named lilly. i dont know what i can do to stop him. he can be SO dominating towards duke, they hump each other ALL the time, its so weird. how can i stop thios GROSS behavioir?
some friends of mine came over my house a few days ago and suggested i get him into training but he is already trained OK. He knows the basic obedience (sit, stay, come, fetch etc.) and i thought thats all the dog has to know? he is still not potty trained so it is VERY frustrating. he doesnt spray (thank gipoodness) but he does poop inside, he does his pee outside.

yes i did enough research to breed my dogs. they are ALL akc registered and have all been health checked only 3 weeks ago. my female maltese was vet checked appriox. 2 weeks ago and my two maltese were health checked by a vet BEFORE mating. i am not a bad owner or backyard breeder (what are they? i thought it was inside breeder?), i love my dogs and would never put them in risk of death.

i havent added to unwanted dogs at all. i have found 2 homes so far (for 2 different puppies) BEFORE i bred. everybody was asking me to breed her because of her great temperament, loving nature, friendliness, health, beautifull looks and her outstanding personality. her puppies will be AMAZING. my male maltese has the exually the same traits. i do not show my dogs because i personally think it is a waste of time. just so your dog has the titles of Ch. before his name? what a waste.

this is not a simple question. i asked because i thought i would get sensible, proper answrrs. not people saying i am a bad owner. i have already desexed my yorki and rat terrier. i planned on breeding my maltese dogs before i got them. i do have my vet on standby from 9am - 7pm and i have an emergency ER available for me 24 hours. i have called my vet (not emergency ER vet) and he was unavailable so decided to ask online. why are so many people against responsible breeders? how am i not responsible? i have paid over $500 in exuiptment ready for breeding and for her new puppies. i still have $1300 on hand for an emergency and i have an extra $500 for general items like food, check ups etc,. so its not as if i didnt save money before breeding. most inside breeders dont even have $300 on hand for an emergency at 4am.

i have tried the water bottle teqnique but he just jumps up and tries to catch the water in his mouth. a firm NO while he is humping does nothing. its like a hound or a beagle with a scent - they dont stop no matter how much you tyell him to come back or to not do what they are doing.

You qualify as a back yard breeder for breeding any dog that is under the age of 2 years old! You CAN NOT get the hips x-rayed and cleared of hip dysplasia before that age! So your male could be passing it on to your litter and you don't know, obviously didn't care.

If you have to ask these kinds of questions, then you should not have been breeding yet.

The pups will be due about Jan 13. She can actually have them any day since this is day 61. If the pups were to come today there wouldn't be any probem, with it being just a couple of days early.

As for the neutered male, they will still act like they are still the stud and can even tie. Nothing to worry about. He cannot make babies. Good luck. Hope mother and babies do okay!

Not another backyard breeder!!! You really shouldn't have bred if you are asking these basic questions on Yahoo Answers. Leave breeding up to those who know how long a pregnancy will be and how to properly care for their pets and newborn pups. I'm assuming neither of your animals have their AKC papers or were checked by a vet to be of proper breeding quality either before you decided to breed.

Are you not aware of the pet overpopulation tragedy in this country? Why are you possibly breeding? Do some research and see why nearly 10,000 pets are euthanized every day in the U.S. and perhaps you'll think about getting your pets fixed.

You did some research????? Gestation is usually 63 days, but can be earlier or later. It's a bit late to be asking about health risks. I hope you are in touch with your vet & will recognise the signs if things start going wrong - otherwise you could easily lose your ***** & the puppies. Please keep your male AWAY from the *****, the last thing a whelping ***** needs is other animals around & she could well defer having the puppies while he's around.

The pups should be due around Jan.14, give or take a day or two. I wish you, the mother and the pups the best of luck.

If she is already expressing milk, she should have them in less than a week. As for the "humping" male, it is just natural behavior for the male to want to dominate, you can teach him not to do it by sharply saying NO! when he does or spray him with water

I can't help you with your first problem but it sounds like fred needs more training. There are many levels of training. He might benefit from intermediate and advance training. PetSmart and PetCo have some good training classes that run for about six weeks and can help you a lot. Their prices are very reasonable too.

Good Luck

I would hope that you have taken you girl to the vet, because k9 prenatal care is very important, the vet would advice what you need to feed her to insure good and healthy puppies and when the approximate due date is. If you haven't done this BA-A-A-A-AD OWWWWWWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNER. Shame on you!
