If your dog buries them, it's time to change them.
If your cat tries to cover them up in the litter box, it's time to change them.
If you take them off, and they are still the shape of your foot, it's time to change them.
If they can stand on their own and walk to the washing machine, it's time to change them.

You should change your socks at least 1 time a day. They get dirty and you sweat in them. You can get athletes foot more easily if you dont change them when they get saturated or if you sweat a lot in them. Plus you may not be able to smell it but others may. How hard is it to throw a pair in the wash, they dont take up much room, plus socks dont cost that much so you can have more than a few pairs if that is why you dont change them.

You shouldn't wait until they stink, you should put clean socks on every day. Your feet sweat constantly and the cotton absorbs it and keeps your feet from getting fungus, etc. You really don't want that, do you? By the time your socks smell they're REALLY far gone...

hey, if they're not bothering you, and they're not bothering ones, then i'd just let him (ones) keep wearing them.
i mean, i've lived with ones before, and he's a pretty cool guy most of the time. he doesn't eat your food and doesn't leave all his stuff lying around, right? are you willing to risk your friendship with ones just because he doesn't change his socks?
(plus ones is a big dude - if you tried to change his socks and he didn't want them changed, there'd be a rumble and you'd probably end up getting a beat down.)
let sleeping dogs (and ones's) lie, i say.

You should wash your socks at least after a couple of uses.
It isn't proper to or clean to wait weeks before washing socks.

By all means don't change them till they stand up on their own and repel all life forms for a 2 mile radius. Why waste good soap and water?
