No.
"The draft will not be supported unless the people support the draft."
Not nearly enough people believe in this "war" enough to send their sons, husbands, sisters and daughters off to die needlessly in it.
If the draft were re-instated today, don't you think that women would be called upon?? It's only equality, right? Do you think that higher education could still get you out of going?? Not hardly. If the draft were up for re-instating today, there would be such an outpouring from people who are against it, it could not pass. Our elected officials know this, and won't even try.

I certainly hope so.
Instead of playing games, we need a trained and equipped standing army of about 5 million that can turn the Middle East into a war theater instead of just invading one country at a time.
There are about a half dozen petty monarchs who are all friendly (or openly sponsoring) terrorism ruling over populations that are languishing in poverty.
(Of course a draft isn't really necessary for Iraq alone. Time is what we need, not more men. Less than 200,000 for a period of about 10-15 more years. That's about how long it takes for sectarian angers to settle and a country to realize it's own prosperity.)

If we had a draft, I wonder how congress would have kept their kids out of the war? Maybe there wouldn't have been one at all if they knew their own children might have to go fight in it. But is it worse to draft than to make deceptive television commercials that lure the uninformed into fighting these wars in hopes of getting a leg up in some pie in the sky career?

A draft would be pointless. Most people would be running scared to Canada and Mexico.
