This has been going on since I was just a little girl. It's not a constant thing, and it happens spontaneously...but I feel as if there are bugs crawling on me. I assure you I am a very clean person, practice good hygiene, wash my clothes and bedding once a week, and live in a clean environment. But I have been suffering from social anxiety and panic attacks since the beginning of my teenage years. Could this be some kind of stress hallucination? Maybe nerve damage? If anyone has any serious answers it'd be greatly appreciated.

Social anxiety and panic attacks are something that needs to be addressed by a licensed therapist, but I'm sure you already know that. The feeling of "bugs crawling" on you may be a part of the anxiety because I've had it happen to me. As my condition with the anxiety and panic improved so did the other. I would even break out in a rash when I was experiencing anxiety. Our bodies can do so many things in response to our emotions, and that is not to say, It's all in your head. If you reach a counselor who tells you that, seek advice elsewhere. You need someone who will be understanding and supportive in order to get over this
Much of our fear which causes the panic and anxiety is caused from what we perceive will happen if we are in a social setting. We may fear rejection or a multitude of other things, usually unrealistic fear that prevents us from going forward with our lives. I went through a lot of stress and anxiety, and when I wasn't able to do the things I wanted because of the panic and anxiety, it seemed to just get bigger the next time.
I wish you well, and I truly do understand. If you would like to e-mail me, please feel free to do so. Good luck

Relax. If you've been having panic since you were a teen, you have a hormonal imbalance- considering how the hormones change during the teen years, that's very common. You don't have any nerve damage or mental problem-- you most likely need a blood work-up and your doctor might put you on birth control pills. As for the bugs, that's a subconscious "quirk" you developed- it's just a false sensation you need to start ignoring.

What you are experiencing is called a tactile hallucination. It can be brought on by severe stress or it could be something else. If you are seeing a doctor for your anxiety (which you should be), talk to him or her about it. Your doctor can help you deal with the anxiety and the hallucinations. As we get older, our body chemistry changes and sometimes our symptoms change too. A good counselor can recommend some relaxation techniques that may be able to help you with both problems. Good luck and God Bless!!!!!

If you are on any kind of medication, it could be a side-effect. Sometimes that feeling is an early warning of something else such as diabetes or multiple dystrophy. Report it to your physician and they can test you.

Good luck.

Do you see the bugs or just feel them? I think it is brought on by your panic disorder, but I could be wrong. You could have schizophrenia. Hallucinations are common with that.
