Notepad is the fastest and most reliable editor to use, but it doesn't have sufficient formatting and functionality. So usually Wordpad would do, or Microsoft Word.

Most computers come with software for typing letters already installed. See if you have Wordpad under Start, Accessories. Or even better, see if you have Microsoft Word.
Notepad is not very good for typing letters. There is a very limited selection when it comes to formatting. If you do not have any other software on your computer for typing letters, go to:
http://www.sun.com or a yahoo search and look for
Freeware Sun Microsystems Office Suite
It is similar to Microsoft Office, but it's free!

You can use Microsoft Word, it's more efficient. The notepad program also works. I use notepad mainly for editing PC game files.

I would use Word for that. I only use notepad for copying tracking numbers or websites things I want to save to my desktop for a short amount of time. But for letters I use Word.

Yes, Notepad can be used for typing and printing letters. For more versatility, try WORDPAD, also a part of Windows.
Click STart - Run
Type in WRITE and hit enter.
