Is there any way of predicting which troops will be sent? I have a friend who was active duty in Iraq in 2003/2004. He is now a National Guard reservist. (He's an officer and a platoon leader)

What do you mean by this? Do you branch mean wise? Well mostly the Army an the Marines are going to be sent to Iraq, because they're needed the most, if thats what you meant. But if you meant active or reservist then your friend isn't likely to be sent.

The reserves are NOT needed, even if Bush wanted to send an additional 200,000 troops. The reserves shouldn't be sent.

But since he is an Officer, it is a high possibility.

No way of predicting. I'm positive that it will be Brigade Combat Teams, and MiTT's.. More than likely active duty, as a majority of them aren't in Iraq. Unless his commander "buys" a mission, or he volunteers, it is most likely he won't rotate.

I'm not sure, try doing some searches on google or watch political blogs. I know that for a lot of the soldiers going its there third tour of duty. My guess is that if he's been there, then he's probably going back.

Yeah apparently its coming from activating more national guard reserves... but the more makes me think he might be safe if he was already there? Who knows... I wouldn't book any vacations in the near future if I were him though...

He's recruiting those that have served terms already and trying to exhume the dead and draft them back into service as well. (I kid you not! They are serving warrants for no-shows for dead people!)

The next step is the general Draft up to age 45... BUT they dont want to really do that...
