I think if you fill out the green card on landing thats enough if you have a British passport. I flew to Texas a while ago and didnt get a visa, but I was only in transit...

They're a company who will do all your visa application for you for a 'small' fee, but I think you can quite easily do it yourself. Just choose your nationality and your destination from the scroll bars at the top and it will give you all the information you need about whether or not you need a visa.
They even have the forms on that site which you can download for free.
(And by the way, the answer is no, you dont need a visa for America.)

Yes you do,You will be asked to fill in the green visa form on the plane trip over to the US once that you have filled in the form you will be asked to give it to the customs officer at the passport control gate on your way through the airport,He will stamp your passport and add the visa to it.

The UK is part of the visa wavier program. As long as you are coming as a tourist you are ok for 90 days as long as you have a valid PP and a return ticket. If you are coming for any other reason you will have to have a visa.

No. You only need a visa if you plan on staying longer than three months. Prepare to be photographed and fingerprinted upon arrival, though.

If you are coming into the US from another country, YES, you need a passport. Once you are here, you are free to go to whatever state you want.

You have your passport and whatever airport you land in they will check out your passport and stamp it and ask you what you are doing in our country. You, will either answer pleasure or wedding or business, etc. After that, you are free to go all over the United States. ENJOY !!!!! WELCOME !!!!
