Ok, so everytime I burn candles, I'm left with all the wax around the candle and a "hole" in the middle where the wick was. Any ideas how I can salvage that extra wax and and ideas how I can burn the whole candle at once. Why does this happen?

try placing your candles in an area that is away from all drafts - i.e. not in/near a window, heating/cooling vent, doorway, etc... that will help the candle burn more evenly. also, turn the candle a few times while it is burning, again to even out the melt. there is little you can do to prevent the "hole" in the candle, because for safety most are designed to make the well so that the burning wick & hot wax are somewhat contained. also, as a previous poster suggested, get one of those wax popourri pots (the ones designed to burn the little scented wax pellets) and break up the leftover candles into small pieces & burn. just make sure not to overload the pot, because then you will have melted wax everywhere.

if the candle burns relatively even, you can insert a slightly smaller candle into the remaining wax well. sometimes that creates a nice glowing wax piece, especially if you drop in one of those tea candles in the metal cup. also, give soy-based candles a try. they are supposed to burn more evenly, and put off less soot into the air as well.

Pillar candles should be burnt for as many hours as the candles diameter...3 inch diameter shoud be burnt at least three hours each time it is lit... then when you blow out candle use your hands to gently curl the top edge over the 'hole' that way it will melt first the next time you light it...Also better [ more expensive ]candles will not do this as much as cheap candles

I hate that too....These kinds of cadles are made to work this way so theres not alot that you can do about some of them cause they aren't made to burn like that. what you can do though is to cut a groove in the top of the candle so the wax will fall off the sides....this will cause the wax to drip off the sides and forces the cadle to burn more wax from the sides instead of burning from the pool of wax....

I just wanted to add that if you buy soy candles that does not happen at all. I burn them all day everyday (there are limits on how long you should burn these also but I never pay attention to that--it is a risk though apparently if you burn them longer).

Check out this website ...very affordable...

burn 100% soy candles and you'll have no wasted wax. They also burn cooler and slower than paraffin candles too which also saves you $$$. Soy candles are wonderfully fragrant and are healthier to breath. No soot or toxins. It's a no Brainer!

I don't think you are letting them burn long enough. I use a votive cup and burn until the candle is melted even across. Try a candle warmer they claim they work great.

(1)Buy skinny tapers instead.
Most decorative candles are way to thick.
More wax melts if you keep pouring out the melted stuff
from time to time. But not all of it, sorry.

(2)The extra wax can be for helping sliding doors and drawers operate more smoothly.

I believe I have read there is a certain amount of time you should burn your candle each time so you avoid the unsightly hole. I am not sure of the amount of time though.

You can always try a candle warmer - it will melt all the wax left.....
