i lost 70 pounds since august '06. i did through balanced diet of 1600-1900 calories per day, and burning 1080 calories per week through cardio. i still need to lose 130 more pounds.
since christmas, i have "fallen off the wagon". i'm unmotivated and unable to stick to a balanced meal, and not wanting to workout.
do you think if i did a FAD diet like cabbage soup diet for a week, to kick start the weightloss and motivation, it harm my weightloss or my health? then i go back to a "normal" diet regimen after the 1 week of cabbage soup diet?

i just need to see a drop in the scale to get motivated again.

Think about what motivated you to start eating healthy and exercising the first time. If you have a good reason like increased health, more energy to spend with family and friends and an overall sense of accomplishment then that should help get you started back on the program too.

I understand that it is hard to get started again, but try starting off slow and building upon that. For example, tell yourself that you have to walk for twenty minutes today and stick with it like it is a scheduled appointment. Ease back into your diet and exercise plan and before you know it you'll be back on a roll again.

The main thing is to stay positive and focused on your long term goal. Don't let the fact that you "fell off the wagon" over the holidays depress to you to the point you don't start again at all.

As for going on a cabbage soup diet or some other FAD diet, doing it for a week shouldn't damage your health (unless you have some other type of health problems or are on medication(s), then you should consult your doctor). Just don't stay on a FAD diet for a long period of time or it might damage your health because you will not be getting balanced nutrition.

I hope this helps. Congratulations on all the weight you have lost already, that is a wonderful accomplishment!

Get back on your regular diet and exercise schedule and leave the fad diets out. They only work short term and you may actually see an increase in your weight. And they aren't good for your health.

You've done so well up to this point don't give up now. To get re-motivated think of how much healthier you are now and all the things you can do now that you couldn't do 70lbs ago and how much more of life you'll be able to experience every single day as you move towards your goal.

Good Luck Girl!!!! I'm cheering for you

Get back on your diet. It was working before, it will work again. Clean out your refrigerator and pantry, go to the grocery store with a list, and get back into your routine.

Maybe you could shake things up a bit to keep your interest. Or, find some new sources of support. I've been on the sparkpeople.com website for the past year, and it has been working out well (username is uofigirl). It's free - and it's a great way to keep yourself accountable to yourself.

Wow......congratulations! good job! I hit a road block like that too. I found a great way to lose weight fast and keep it off. I do body cleansing. I lost 13 pounds in 9 days and then 28 pounds in less than a month. Cleansing will help the body get rid of toxins. Toxins come from a lot of things like fast food, pollution, food additives and preservatives etc. The toxins get stored in the fat in our body. To shrink the fat, we have to get rid of the toxins by cleansing. This made sense to me and I decided to try a cleanse program and it worked. The weight came off fast and this kept me motivated to keep going, not like other diets where the weight loss it too slow. Start weight training ad drink more water and eat protein and fibre rich foods. Stay away from starchy, carb and sugar rich foods. Increase your cardio as well this will kick start your metabolism. I also lost some weight but the holidays are full of temptation and I gained back 10 pounds. Don't be discouraged. Keep up the good work. I'm trying my best too and that's what we need to do!
GOOD LUCK AND GOOD JOB ON WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED.
