Obviously, as an "atheist," one is interested in the religious question. One has simply reached a different conclusion than the "Christian" - which fact rankles the Christian to no end. Also, all the old mythologies don't cease to be interesting just because they've been recognized not to be literal historical facts. Even Christians admit to being fascinated by the pagan myths, although they fail to discern the degree to which their own religion is merely hijacked paganism.
I'm only an "atheist" if by "God" we're referring to one of the gods of wood and stone that men have set up as fetishes for worship. Such is the orthodox Christian god. I'm what you might describe as a "gnostic" - I insist on direct spiritual experience, each man for himself - "certainty, not faith." Yet I read the bible, and other religious classics, all the time, and I can hold my own in any conversation on the topic. I only object to dogmatism and literalism, symptoms of the benighted, uninitiated mind.

to become an Atheist, it requires a conscious descision, unlike being raised into a religion, babies usually arne't brought up atheist except in rare cases. when one decides to idenify as atheist, they probably did a bit of soul searching, broke away form their family religion and did some reserach, they are proud, and this new title defines them, they want to share because it gives a feeling of education to others. But this is just generalizing.
That is also why gay people tend to be more direct and honest; in order to face what they are, they have to be honest with themselves first before anyone else, it's the ultimate test. There are plenty of intelligent christians who know a lot about what they believe and are very knowledgable, they tend to be quieter about religion, it's just a matter of life experiences, maybe you were surrounded by a lot of examples of this, whereas, I, living in republican west texas hear a lot of political dissention from democrats here and hardly hear anything from republicans, it's a matter of society and minorities tend to want to make themselves heard.
Assuming they aren't yelling and ranting on the soapbox, that can make for a lot of intelligent religious discussion eh? Instead of preaching a religion, or lack thereof, maybe people can just preach peace, that's something all denominations can agree with.
hope this helped. I tried to give a neutral logical viewpoint, I am neither christian nor atheist.

I wonder which atheists you mean and whether you mean atheists talk about religion more than they talk about Christians (note the capitalization of the initial letter of the proper noun) or whether you mean atheists talk about religion more than Christians talk about religion.
As is often the case with questions beginning with "why," yours is not a question in the sense of a search for information, but an attempt to put forth your assumption.
The difficulty is that your assumption is not supported by any evidence, and it is not clearly expressed.

Depends on where you ask.
This is a forum of mainly younger people, and Religion tends to develop and deepen over time and life experiences.
When I was 19 or 20, I was much less Religious than I am now at 42.
By the way, Christians are not against stem cell Research, the Catholic Church is not even against it. Adult Stem cell Research or Embryonic fluid stem cell research is also fine.
The Catholic Church has a problem with killing a baby to do research on it's cells.
In my opinion, most people leave Religion for the wrong reasons, I was one of them in my younger days!
My only complaint is when they try to portray Christians as un-educated or somehow less intelligent than they are.
Many of us have studied different faiths for decades and have only a deeper faith from it.
Peace!

It is not true that atheists talk about religion more than Christians. It seems so to you, perhaps because they beat their gums in particularly distinguishing ways. Such ways are called in the literary field brash negativism.
In their endeavor to make excuses for their hopelessness, they lash out against their own insecurity. Why else would someone so vehemently deny something he does not believe exists?
They could easily ignore the religious person, yet they ride the Christian horse to beat it to death. Something that, at all costs, they hope to be denied must certainly be true. As the saying goes..."me thinks you protest too much."

Ho do they know more about a being that they say is not there. That doesn't make sense. Aetheists believe in God and they know there is a God, somepeople just don't want to accept the fact the this is how it is. If you break these command you've sinned against God, trying to make God some bad guy. But Aetheists no matter what you do, He still loves you and has His hand's stretched out for you. How can you hate somethone who died for you. That's more than what your own parewnts or the most valuable person in your life would do. Talk to Kirk Cameron, he said he think he was the biggest Aetheists of all. I just read in the bible where God says he gets no satisfaction on people dying, meaning He wants you to get it right, so when you die you can be with Him. Hell was only made for Satan, not humans. I hoped I helped someone today.

Because they are being used by Satan to distance people from God.They come up with conjectures in order to confuse the facts, psychological warfare they call it. Take the example of communist, socialist, fascist and other atheist countries that prohibit the practice of religion. They spend their time brainwashing their people in talking about how religion is unproductive while at the same time extolling the benefits of the party line or ideology. They hope that over time, maybe a couple of generations after keeping people in the dark, they would forget about God, making it easier for the people in power to make people rely solely on the government for salvation. Look at North Korea, whose standing army is the 3rd biggest in the world. Do you think sundays in that country is spent on religious worship? I think not.

Because atheists think they are enlightened. And also feel the need to so graciously share all of their "wisdom" with everyone else.

To get the theists to understand that they are wasting their life on fables. To hope they see their errors in worshipping nothing and explaining to them that they should be pouting their energy into the advancement of man.
