I've tried everything with her...and I've given her a million speeches about how worried I am about her, and how dangerous it is to be doing what she's doing...but nothing helps. She is a musical person, so I'm thinking if I can find the right song, and get her to listen to it..it may say something that I have not been able to think of..and possibly get her to open up to me, and let me try to help her. She's been an addict, to pretty much any drug she can get her hands on (mostly alcohol) for almost 10 years...and I can't stand by and watch her kill herself anymore. This is my last resort...please help.

If things were that easy then it would be great, but unfortunatly it's not, the best way to deal with alchoholism is to talk to her and wait until shes ready to try and quit, believe me if shes not willing to try, she wont make it, let her know how it affects you by her doing the things she does, and how much you love her and how uch you will miss her if she continues this route, remember it doesnt happen overnight if she agrees to it, it takes alot of time and support to kick the habit , try support programs where you can go along with her so she wont be alone, get her to open up to you about emotional issues and maybe go to counseling together, I hope that things do work out for you and I pray that god heals your mother and she lets her guard down and lets you help her. Good luck again

You are a really caring person! Good for you!
The person that suggested "One Wing in the Fire" has the right idea, but the artist is Trent Tomlinson.
However, I'm not sure that's moving enough. I personally can't think of anything, but I do suggest looking in the country genre. I have a feeling that that will be the best genre for it. The artists aren't afraid of sharing their pasts or singing about hard issues like that.
Try Johnny Cash- he went through alcohol and drug addictions and is likely to have a song about it. Good luck!

Nothing you can say or do will get thru to your mother. You have to remember that while she gives into drugs/alcohol everytime..she is desperately wishing and wanting to do the right thing. She doesn't want to live this way, she wants to be normal. No one wants to be an addict and have their children look at them this way. This is something that she needs to overcome on her own. While she does need your support, if she doesn't want it for herself, she'll never get past this. It's one day at a time and while I know the need to take care of your parents, this is her problem. See if you can get her to go with you to a support group for people with alcoholic parents. Trick her into going...come up with something. It's hard to sit back and watch her self-destruct, but you can't make her change. You can only do so much. I'm sorry, but no lyric out there is going to get her to change. It may move her and she may for a minute desperately want to change, but most likely she'll say screw it, pour me another.

I like the song "Mother, I Miss You" by John Test and Dalia. The website below has the song so you can listen to it. The lyrics are on the second website.
I hope this will help. Good Luck.

I agree with the Kenny Chesney song. Also I know its weird but try that song Dont Close your Eyes by Kix, its about suicide but I know it had an affect on my step-brother when he heard it and hes been sober for 5 years now.
