I started taking anti-biotics three whole days ago, and I still have pain and a swollen tonsil with the white infection showing.

I was hoping to go away this weekend, but don't want to compromise or elongate the recovery process.

I have a susceptibility to strep throat and have had it numerous times. The recovery varies a little bit, but generally it takes about a week to 10 days for me to feel back to normal. Along with the antibiotics, take acetaminophen for the pain and gargle frequently with salt water. I use water that is as hot as I can stand it. It helps clean out the infection and helps with pain as well. Also, sipping hot liquids like chicken noodle soup, tea, or broth will help. Rest as much as you can, too. You shouldn't be contagious after being 48 hours on the antibiotic according to my doctor. Even after I start to feel better, I tire easily for a few more days.

I just had strep throat last month and mine took a good 4 - 5 days before I started feeling relief from throat pain. Have you tried those sore throat bears? Sounds silly, but they helped my throat feel a bit better, as well as hot tea (I drank chamomile). Hope you feel better soon!

I had strep a couple of years ago, and it took about 4-5 days for the pain to totally go away.
