You will need some kind of audio editing software. I don't know of any that are freeware, but I would recommend Sonic Foundry 'Sound Forge'.

With audacity I think you choose the bit you want to keep and export it. Either that or choose the bit you don't want and delete it

audigy is a free editing software for sounds that works great, it should be of use to you :)
