No - I care what SOME people think, but I don't let it run my life. I'm fiercely independent in that particular regard.

Growing up, it's hard to let other's opinions not affect you because a child is learning about themselves everyday. Children are very impressionable and what others' say can greatly affect them be it negatively or positively. As we grow into adulthood, we make the choice as to whether we will allow someone to affect us by what they say of us. What we experience growing up greatly affects us as adults. When it comes to bad experiences, we can either use it in a positive way or a let it consume us and send us into a downward spiral. The most positive way to get through the things we experience is to not regret going through these things and to look at it as a life lesson. Torturing yourself over the negative experiences will only push one towards depression. I know sometimes it can be hard not to negatively react to something or someone in the heat of the moment like being in traffic, having them cut in front of you, then that person slams on the breaks. It happens! But, for the most part, if we make every effort to consciously think about our actions before we have a chance to react in a negative way, we are conditioning ourselves in a positive way. This goes for every situation in life including what others' opinions about ourselves. My opinion about myself is the one I value the most. Sorry if this was long winded. I couldn't explain it any other way.

Of course...what you call interference can merely be advice and wisdom and help....why wouldn't you accept this from someone? To reject it probably indicates arrogance or excessive pride. For instance, what if your life's journey involves drug addiction? And your family/friends keep telling you to stop. Is that interference or help?

I've done that a lot over the years. Took me about thirty years before I realised I was doing it.

I use to hold this as high importance however; not anymore.

I will note and examine any opinions to determine if I see any accuracy and what I determine as not is dismissed.

Interfere? No.

Help to shape and mold me, and if possible, grow from them? Absolutely.

No...I used to, but not anymore. It has been a long, slow process to get out of the habit of allowing others to judge me.
