Historical evidence to all of the important historical facts of the Bible exist from sources other than the Bible. Roman historians mention Jesus, as well as the Apostles. Evidence form other sources mention them preaching the Gospels in various places and times. The fact that they are recorded almost continually doing so, AFTER the crucifiction, until their (violent) deaths. There was a great many whom were involved, and the present day scriptures should be regarded as their gifts to posterity, as they could no longer preach them in person, which they all did. Subsequent believers have carried on the traditions, and this has been continual. No mysterious texts have reappeared or anything like that.
That they were written near the end of their lives, is the only reason that they were not written earlier.
As far as the Magi history, I don't think that they were so trivially concerned about a faraway culture, The fact that it was wise men seeking him is the real lesson in this.
And as far as childhood stories, about Jesus, I think that it can be inferred from the lack of details that Jesus lived a very normal and uninteresting childhood. But see Luke 2:49 this is the beginning of his ministry as a child.

It's not like the birth of a child is a public event, open for everyone to see ... !
Like every other delivery/birth, Mary giving birth to Jesus was a very private event -- not the kind of thing that would have been shown for all the world to see on some reality show.
When you ask why things were written 30 years afterwards ... well, that's an understandable question, but it's also a question asked by people who are judging 2,000-year-old events by 21st century standards.
What I mean is -- you're used to Reuters and the AP writing about things immediately after they happen, because you live in the year 2007. But it didn't work that way 2,000 years ago.

I don't believe Jesus' birth was the fulfilment of prophecy, Jesus words where from GOD, he was given gifts of healing, from GOD, his parents, his teachers; who taught him about life and the suffering that was about, this was a long process from the age of 12 till 30 that he learnt the art of healing. Then he performed his miracles.
Jesus was one of many, and till today men and women are blessed with this power. I don't think anyone raised someone from the dead like Jesus did. I have to give him that one.
The birth of Jesus was only witnessed by Joseph as he had to take Mary away from Nazareth as Herod wanted all new baby boys put to death as he had word of a child was going to be born who was predicted to rule Jerusalem. Herod felt threaten and made this decision. Look what happened, Jesus was taken away from Jerusalem born in Bethlehem, came back to Jerusalem years later with the word around that Jesus was here to fulfil the prophecy. Only to be back stabbed by his disciples (political party) that he was a fraud and insane. I mean he had charisma and he had one more than any other man at the time that he was able to heal people, raise people from the dead. He would have had my vote had he lived till the election time and appointed new disciples. We can only imagine what would have happened. I believe he would have stomped out all evil on earth.

Satan knew the Messiah was coming and would have liked to take Him out before the mission was complete. If you read Isaiah 50-52 you will see that it was in fact prophesied hundreds of years before it happened. People missed it because God needed a low profile in this instance. It even says if Satan knew and understood what was happening he never would have crucified Jesus because that was in fact the end of him.

One would expect there to be some written confirmation from the Magi of Jesus' birth and conditions of his birth.
Then again, they spent all that money on Gold, Frankinsence and Myrrh, maybe they went out of business after that.
Another thing, Mary & Joseph had these expensive gifts, what did they spend the money on?

It never ceases to amaze me how some will try to put Christians on a spot, But you have one Christian here that is not on a spot, You said that it was written years after Jesus was born about his birth, No, friend it was written hundreds of years before he was born, Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, unto us a son is given & the government shall be upon his shoulder & his name shall be called Wonderful, counsellor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. & Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly O daughter of Zion, Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem, Behold, thy king cometh unto thee, he is just, & having salvation, lowly & riding upon an *** & upon a colt the foal of an ***. Now Matt. 21:5 TELL YE THE DAUGHTER OF SION, BEHOLD, THY KING COMETH UNTO THEE, MEEK & SITTING UPON AN *** & A COLT THE FOAL OF AN ***. If they had known the time of their visitation, they all would have known Jesus Christ fufill that prophecy, But like many today, their eyes has been blinded.

There probably were but God only had the ones about his adulthood and ministry saved so that we wouldn't focus on Jesus the boy/man but Jesus the Savior of the world. If He wanted to expound on Jesus' childhood He would've included all that in the bible.
