I have the same problem sometimes. I'll just keep waking up every night for no reason and toss and turn for hours after. I think it could be caused by stress, or because your body still may be used to getting up all hours of the night with your baby before he/she was sleeping through the night. What I find helps is a nice steamy mug of an herb tea for relaxing before going to bed like Nighty Night, Tension Tamer or Passion Flower Tea. I opt for the Passion Flower. It is just all round good for nerves and stress. Another thing I do is once I see that I'm not falling back to sleep I turn the light on and read or watch TV. If I do that for about a 1/2 an hour and turn out the light it seems to fool my body into thinking it's just going to sleep and I usually fall back to sleep soundly. Good luck. I know how you feel.

Your body could be still be on the time schedule you were getting with your baby, you know this is possible & has happend to people before.I would call the doctor & ask about Lunesta or Ambien either of these meds are easy to wake up from.I went hrough a period of not sleeping all night just a few months ago,I would take warm bath, read a couple of chapters from a book, drink a warm glass of milk, then go to bed after 2 nights I was sleeping all night again.Try different things and if you are sleeping all night then go for the suggested meds.Good luck.

Antidepressants can cause sleep disturbances. I know someone that used to sleep for just one hour then *HELLO* she was wide awake. She quit taking her antidepressant with the guidance of her doctor, by tapering off slowly, and she is now sleeping normally again! She increased her exercise and reduced her caffeine intake. Also, you can take Benadryl even if you are breast feeding - it'll make you sleepy.
I tried Ambien, loved it. Allowed me to sleep for seven hours in a row! If you have to wake up to deal with the baby you're not groggy or drugged out, either. It's an amazing little pill! I took it for a month to make up for lost sleep and got back into a regular sleep groove. I don't take it now and I fall asleep and stay asleep on my own.
Hope you find a way to get some rest. Take care.

I'm not a Dr. by any means but I personally have had experience in this area for for twenty five years. Ask your Dr. to refer you to the best psychiatrist within driving distance. This is a special treat for your yourself, never feel ashamed to ask for help. It sounds as if your experiencing some anxiety at night. When I experienced anxiety I woke during the night many random personal thoughts were racing through my mind. I felt as if there was an unknown impending doom coming. These thoughts which were totally out of my control. I could not sleep to save my soul. I'm sure your new Dr. will ask you weather your alone at night or do you have a partner in your home before he or she prescribes sleeping meds. In any event someone needs to hear that new baby. Some meds. may make you oblivious to any thing around you during your sleep. There are other issues which need to be resolved in your life also at this time. If all these strange feelings came quickly to you I believe they will leave just as fast with some specific professional help. Best Wishes To You!

Try going to sleep a little bit later every night and see if that helps. Perhaps you are a bit worried about your baby, and that is waking you up.

Try one of those sound machines in your bedroom or all night radio station which plays SOOTHING music. Keep in on very low. When you wake it will give your mind a focus and you can return to sleep easier.

Try working out before you sleep, preferably perform one hour of intense cardio. This will help for sure.
