Right Way (above) proves your point. He tries to impress us with ream after ream of rubbish which he believes to have authority, but its authority comes from his beilief in it, not from anything instrinsic. Therefore, sensible people ignore people like Right Way, the plonker.

Yes, because the majority of people are retarded and have empty lives.
Therefore religion is used to control these people, while the 10% at the top live the good life and the top 1% make all the decisions.
If the 90% stopped to think for a minute, we would have major control problems.
I'm not saying that there is no God - what I am saying is that the twisted interpretation is pushed from the top in a way to control people whilst corrupting the original meaning.

Religion starts as a genuine attempt by people to understand how the world came about, and how to live their lives.
Some religions - maybe most - are then taken over by earthly powers, either governments or simply a self-appointed hierarchy from within the believers, and used for their own ends. Those ends often include controlling people - making them serve a king, taking some of their money, or making them conform to what the religion's leaders believe is "proper" behaviour.

I think it is, unfortunately, recently, it seems as if I've lost total respect for religion and I kind of feel guilty but then I look at how twisted this stuff is, the religions themselves not just the followers, but if I was born sometime in the past I don't know what my take would be on all of this
there's a big difference between law and religion though, people can live without religion but without law, the world would be in chaos, like in lord of the flies

seeing that Britain is 75% atheists, it only leaves a small number of people that are scared and apparently need to be controlled.
although, i think some might say the laws of the country have the same effect.
So my questions is, "do you think Law is a way to scare and controll people?"

Yes. At it's best religion provides comfort in a world of scary things, such as hardships in life, and death itself. At it's worst, it's used to take advantage of people, and to keep them under control.
Many people who follow a religion know in the back of their minds that it is probably untrue. But they suspend disbelief to keep harsh realities at bay. They are willing to be taken advantage of, and coerced into giving up their personal welfare to keep the blissful delusion alive.
When someone gives up their innate human dignity to a religion, they are at it's mercy. The religion ( and all affiliated with it) now have complete control of the person. I could write a book on it.

Religion is all about emotional manipulation of human insecurities.
It's like a home security company that promotes a TV series scaring people about the dangers of home break-ins, so people in safe neighborhoods still buy them. Except, in the case of religion, there is no basis at all for thinking there's a god. It's all smoke and mirrors.

The faith that Jesus and His Disciples spread was not about control, it was about freedom in The Holy Spirit. However, when Man gets his hands on things it all gets messed up and manipulation comes into it. This has happened with all major religious movements.

I fully believe this. They have no control without the fear of burning in hell for everything that they say is a sin.
It's a sin when it suits the religion.

I used to think so. Than I lost everything and was at the lowest point in my life and out of habit I said GOD HELP ME and would you believe he did. I didn't see white lights or anything out of the ordinary. I just felt a peace come over me and sort of knew God was there with me. I have never looked back since. I was laughed at at first until those who knew me knew I was being honest with myself. Why don't you try it and see what happens.
God bless you my friend
