I have been having bloating, various episodes of constipation, sharp but random pains on my abdomen and sometimes back. Other than that, I feel fine! No fever, no dizziness…I have had a blood test – fine, I have had a sonogram – fine, am now going for a ct scan…My GI doc suggests that I may have either IBS or might be getting too much fiber in my diet. Can anyone elaborate? Also, please give me a list of foods that are fibrous. I tend to eat pretty healthy and feel as if everything I eat is high in fiber but I’m not sure…I only eat wheat bread as well. My urine is a darker and more concentrated color – could this have anything to do with IBS or my fiber intake?

Well it could be IBS i have the same problem. Also if you drink coffee, that could be your problem. Coffee is a natural laxative. Most people don't know that. Beans and vegetables (such as broccoli) have a lot of fiber in them. Wheat bread and pastas hive fiber too. Dark Chocolate has a small amount of fiber in it, but if you eat too much it can make that happen. Now one question have you considered if you are lactose intolerant? That happens when you are. There are a number of possibilities. If you have any more questions e mail me through Y!A.

They're starting to recommend that people with IBS, or IBS-like symptoms be tested for celiac disease, which is an intolerance to gluten (wheat, rye, barley and oats). A lot of people with celiac were misdiagnosed as having IBS for years. (18 years for me). It takes an average of 11 years for a person with celiac to be diagnosed.

Here's a webpage by the National Institutes of Health on celiac -
http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/celiac/

And another from the Mayo Clinic -

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/celiac-disease/DS00319

If that starts sounding familiar here are a couple of message boards for people with celiac and other gluten intolerances.

You can also be intolerant to other common foods and get IBS-type symptoms. Soy, corn, eggs, yeast, dairy, etc. can all cause major issues. You may want to think about keeping a food/symptoms journal and see if you can identify the culprit(s).

I hope you feel better soon.
