Actually one good tip is to take off your coat or sweater or any other heavy garment.
you can either wrap it around your hand to allow you to parry an attack and eliminate or minimise damage to your defending hand.
Or as the enemy approaches wrap it around the enemies hand and weapon and then make your move.
Safest tip is to pick up martial arts class.

If you wish to learn to stop any kind of abuse the you will have to have the program of Bruce Perry, Patriot Self Defense , an application that you simply can find it here https://tr.im/WYTgF
Patriot Self Defense may teach you a highly successful self-defense program that is been field-tested in homes, at government functions and on a number of the meanest streets on the planet against the absolute most questionable, cunning and dangerous criminal.
With Patriot Self Defense you will discover out that's much simpler you then expected to defend yourself since you do not must be an expert or have energy, you have to understand how to do certain actions, simple moves but deathly.

This is the instructions given to the paras starting from WW2.
As the enemy stabs forward grab their wrist behind the knife and pull them to you hard. You now have one arm over there stabbing arm, one under and they are hard up against your back. Go for the little finger prise open the hand take the knife off them; "here the law of reasonable force needs to be thought about carefully". Stab them in the upper part of the leg, immobilising them as you run for it.
Not much good with out a live instructor but sure this will give you something to get you started. My advice run away, in the military this is called a 'tactical retreat' and is my foremost advice.

That's too difficult a question to answer except to try and run away if you can,I've faced Knifes, bottles etc in real life Adrenalin situations, and you don't want to go there, but you could try various self defence clubs to learn,But ultimately the best defence is not to be in that situation to start with ,I'm sorry if this sounds boring but its the truth, and could save your life!!!!

Ok ready for this, it's one of the best moves ever against a knife attack. It's recomended by senseis from almost every martial art as well as by police and military trainers around the world.
Step 1) Know your surroundings. Get a good look around.
Step 2) See the knife. You have to know the knife attack is coming.
Step 3) Run the *bleep* away!!!!! Yes, run like a little girl on Sunday. There's no shame in running from a knife wielding assailant.
Step 4) Call the cops to come shoot said knife wielding assailant.
Done, you just survived a knife attack.

We practised knife defense quite a lot but to be honest half of it was far too fancy for it's own good.
The most effective move I found for me was if possible to do a little flick to the attackers arm when he made the stabbing motion, this knocked him off balance and facing slightly away from me.
I could either have stamped on the side of his knee then or or kicked him onto the ground and ran away.

it's all due to your timing and your ability to catch and control the hand with the blade in it.
if you can step back while using what we call in Hapkido a "butterfly" grab.
place your hands together with your thumbs touching but no other fingers, this leaves just enough space to catch the hand with the knife in it, the possibility of getting your hand(s) cut is there, but it's better than getting stabbed in a vital area of the body.
If you do catch the hand, you have to keep hold of the hand and control that hand so they cant try to use it again, and go for an elbow strike or palm strike to the face to weaken your opponent and then try to remove the knife from them.
it's difficult to describe and easier to show, so I suggest you might want to try taking up a Martial arts class to better understand the body mechanics of this.
Hapkido, Aikido, Judo, and Jujitsu should show you a different perception of this technique.

do NOT attempt to kick the assailant in the groin because this never works and only serves to enrage him further.
A kick in the groin is not effective.
I think you should go to self defence classes as there are several ways of dealing with an armed assailant. But if you get them wrong, it just seems like resistance on your part and makes the assault worse.

Take a class and find out for yourself.
No one should teach moves over the web! It's just a bad idea but here is my answer.
Use your legs and run as fast as you can! That way the only damage done is your pride and ego. In a few days you will have forgotten all about it!

This isn't a movie. In real world, there's not much you can do beside run or try to catch knife with your bare hand. Yes you'll get the hell cut out of your hand, but.. Its better than getting stab in vital part of body.

don't mess with someone with a knife! unless you're in the special forces or something the best case scenario is that you might win, but you'll get some deep wounds in the process.. running is always the best defense if your opponent has a weapon..
however if I was trapped in a corner and by someone with a knife, I'd probalby go with a swift kick to the knees.. I'd use my hands strictly for defense to keep the knife away from my face and body..
I'd probably get some bad cuts on my hands and arms, but hopefully I could take out one of his knees before he got in close and stuck the knife somewhere that could kill me..
