Mary Jane is slang for marijuana - never heard it ever used in any religious reference.

From the word Mary, an Holy name, and Jane(has no meaning at all but maybe it refers to a plant) I therefore conclude that Mary Jane a.k.a. Marijuana or Dope or just plain old Weed, Holy.

I also therefore officially translate Mary Jane as Holy Plant and officially define it as a plant by which given by God so that we become holy.

I also therefore propose a change in some statements in the Bible referring to the conception of Christ and put there "Before she received the Savior she smoke some weed to spice things up and make it Holy when the weed had given her the state of Holiness the Angel came to her to conceive her of Holy Child because of the fact that she was quite weedy and was therefore Holy(not to mention she was a virgin according to her state of Holiness)."

By the way... I'm just kidding...

No it has nothing to do with religion. i thikn you are getting question from the name of the mothe of jesus.. Mary. but thats just a coincidance and nothing else. the only reason its called mary jane because in spanish its called Maria y Juana.. so if you translate those names you would get Mary Jane.

It is merely derived from the parts of marijuana that look similar - mari = mary, juana = jane. Juana can also be interpreted as Jane from Spanish to English.

I think that it is more 'racist' than religious. Mary Juana is a slang ... and I think it is directed towards people of Mexico. Associating Mexico with Marijuana.

I have a question for you: why cotton? why not hemp?

I always thought Mary Jane was a 1960's drug phrase for pot.
