It's probably better that 20-25 year olds are fighting rather than 40 year olds with a wife and three children. Honestly, a life is a life. You seem to care more about 20-25 year olds than other people. Why?

The truth of it is, most people join the military right out of highschool. Also, since some only stay in 4 years, for the college money ect...that would make them around 22 on average when their 4 years is up. Its not that the military is sending young inexperienced soldiers, its that that age group is the most common in the military. It is sad when any soldier is killed, reguardless of age.
Also to the person who said its better a 20-25 year old fighting then a 40 year old married man with 3 kids......in the military i know of several couples all under the age of 25 who have at least one child. My husband is only 29 (not as young as some i know) but we are going to have our 3rd child in March. The young ones have children as well, and again, it is sad no matter who the fallen soldier is, married, single, young or older.

Because that is the average age of the combat soldier. There are, however many older military members going to Iraq and Afghanistan, sometimes they come back and sometimes they don't. My sister and brother-in-law are late 40's and early 50's and both have been to Iraq 3 times each. Brother in-law retired after 33 years service, sister about to retire after 25 years service (5 tours in the middle east!).

Most people join the military when they are fresh out of high school and they are the ones on the front lines. Officers don't go on as many dangerous duties (that is good you don't want the leaders killed) and commissioned officers have college educations which means they are older by the time they get to war zones. There is a real explanation and I hope it helps.

Because they can move faster than an 50 year old grandad, who would rather have fighting, someone who can move at the pase of a turtle or a pace of welll 20 - 25 yr old person...plus they dont need to be ecperienced! All they need is trainign which they get, and the follow orders...Alll the experienced guys are giving the orders...thats the best way to do it!

Bin-laden told Bush to sacrifice young Americans - and that's what he is doing.
It's just like when Bin-laden told Bush to get America's military out of Saudi Arabia. Bush complied with that demand also.

Well, younger people are much more successful at being solders than older people. They are more fit and adapt to the environment much quicker. If there were all older people out there, then you would have MANY more casualties. Of coarse, I don't expect weed smoking hippies to understand that.

Most of the US military is composed of people in that age range, so it's naturally the case that they are the unfortunates that go to Iraq.
