I don't think it will ultimately replace the need to study embryotic stem cells, though it might temporarily get around the nonsense religious roadblocks to getting this important research going.
Because of religious superstition and politics, the US is far behind in this research. This is making us look like back woods yokels to the rest of the world.

I am opposed to human embryonic stem cells however stem cell research is important - I actually do some work in mouse embryonic stem cells - if adipose tissue is possible then great but I dont think the technology is there yet

There is no moral prohibition against reverting a cell to a stem-cell state. This is an active intervension. Though the stem-cell may have the potential to be nursed into an embryonic state, that particular portion of the planet wide chemical reaction we call life has already actualized its human potential.
However, if it were actively nursed into an embryonic state, that is, it began to form a blastula, it would be morally required to give it all the same consideration of other human life as a separate individual with its own potential.

I am all for stem cell research
One- the stem cell is not fertilized therefore it is not complete and by itself is not and cannot become into human form on its own.
Two- The potential for curing many diseases that effect people that are alive.
Three- They claim it unethical however; its fine and dandy to clone animals, and even though I agree it is the right of a woman I personally do not care for its existence (abortion)
To hold back potential breakthroughs that are technically created by God in the first place just because some religion judges it as unethical is beyond me. Let God declare it not some man.

As long as it's not embryonic stem cells (ie having to kill an embryo to get them) I'm all for it.
