A previous answer says not to feed rasins and grapes, amongst other things. Chocolate I understand, but not rasins. My collie absolutly loves almost any fruit or veg you care to name that she has tried - although she isn't always sure what to do with the grapes.

Thanks, I won't be giving my dog any more rasins then - she allready has enough food issues. She must be about the worlds only vegan dog (although she copes with tuna)

The only reason she is on a vegan diet apart from fish is she can't tolerate any meat at all, even dog miscuits with trace amounts of 'meat and animal products' are enough to make her ill. The food she is on has soya protein, and thats also why she gets the fish. The difference in her since she started this diet is amazing. She's a high drive border collie and she used to be quite for an old dog, despite being 3, now she is as mad as she should be and never stops.

The toxicity of raisins and grapes in dogs (they do not know how they affect cats yet, but advise to avoid feeding them anyway). Eating just a handful of raisins and grapes has been shown to cause kidney failure. They do not know why as yet but it might be due to a pesticide sprayed on the grapes or perhaps a type of mould found on the skin of grapes and raisins.

I am told by a vet friend that grapes and other fruits are fine but dried fruits are too high in sugars which they cant metabolise. This can cause kidney and liver disease!
Chocolate and Onions are also dangerous as they contain chemicals that dogs can't digest and they quickly build up to toxic levels.
A vegan or vegetarian diet is not a healthy diet for a dog! They need the proteins and other nutrients in red meat as they are carnivores!

To be honest I did not know grapes were bad for a dog.
I have a German Shepherd that crawls round the floor and nips one grape off at a time then hides to eat it.
We have watched him, and we have had no problems at all he eats raisins, apples, oranges in fact any fruit, we told our vet about this and he has said it is fine.

They cause kidney failure. As few as 10 raisins or grapes can cause this.
