Haven't personally filed one for myself. But, for a client. Yes, if you are required to file one with your return, they will make you prove once again that the child and/or children qualify for you for Earned Income Credit. You'll get a letter in a few months asking for documents proving that the children lived with you for more than six months. Things like doctor's bills, utilities bills, school records. Anything proving that your children's address is the same as your address essentially. Get help from a tax pro if you are confused as how to respond to the letter.
