Can you make rose water at home? If so, a recipe would be great.

Can you make tootsie rolls at home? I live in Australia and have never tried a tootsie roll. A recipe would be great.

Is rose water (the way you said) edible? It will be for sweets and to make turkish delight. A tootsie roll recipe would be just fantastic!

What's a square of chocolate? Is it a 250g block (1/2 a pound?).

Is powdered sugar just icing sugar (ground really fine...powdery?). Is that just another name!?

Also, what's dark karo syrup?

The rosewater is edible as long as you don't add the rubbing alcohol.

Powdered sugar is also known as confectioner's sugar.

A square of chocolate weighs one ounce, or about 30 grams.

Dark Karo syrup is dark corn syrup (Karo is just a brand name).

Rosewater (edible)
3 cups fresh rose petals (make sure there are NO pesticides used on rosebushes)
1 liter mineral water

Put 3 large handfuls of petals into the clean pot.
Pour the water over the rose petals.
Cover the pot.
Place it over low heat and let it simmer until half the water is left.
Let it cool.
Discard the petals and pour the liquid (rosewater) into the sterile bottle.
Cap tightly and store in fridge.

Note: If you are not going to use the rosewater in food, add a little rubbing alcohol to preserve it longer and use on skin.

Tootsie Rolls
1 square unsweetened chocolate
1 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. dark Karo syrup
1/4 tsp. vanilla
1 1/4 c. (or more) powdered sugar
1/4 c. plus 2 tbsp. powdered milk

In glass bowl, microwave chocolate and butter until melted at 50 to 75% power. Stir in syrup and vanilla. Microwave at 100% power 1 minutes. Add dry milk and 1 cup sifted powdered sugar. Stir well. Knead on waxed paper until smooth, using sufficient powdered sugar to make pliable, easily-handled dough.
Divide dough into tablespoon-sized balls, then roll into strips. Cut like tootsie rolls. Wrap individual in plastic wrap, if desired. Store covered in refrigerator.

Rose water is made by smashing up rose petals, placing them in some water and then distilling the mixture. Basically boil the liquid and collect the steam. The steam you collect, once it has turned back into liquid, will have a different liquid floating on top. This is rose water used for perfumes. The color of the rose doesn't matter. You will need A LOT of roses as I'm sure you have already guessed. Tootsie rolls? I'll have to get back to you, but I think I have a recipe somewhere.

Use pink rose petals or red sprinkle with lemon juice and cold water mix together and allow to stand until perfume and color have developed ,strain into a screw top bottle.Yes it is edible . LINDSAY DO not leave the petals in to long as they will de- compose in the water .Keep it in the fridge while it is stewing.keep it cool. IT MAY BE BETTER TO USE DISTILLED WATER.
