I told my boyfriend that I think we should just be friends. He says minutes later yeah I think your right lets take a break. Is that the same thing?

Taking a break from a partner is saying lets breath for a few weeks and then get back together, and saying lets just be friends is saying its not going to work as a relationship between us maybe just friends is better.

It's ALMOST the same thing. The difference is...you want to remain friends and he still has hope for the relationship. A "break" implies picking back up sometime in the future. Sounds like he's not opposed to the idea of seeing other people but not so sure he's ready to let go of you completely. Make sure your intentions for your relationship in the future are clear to both parties. Good luck!

Maybe not. It all depends. When you say lets just be friends that tells me you don't want to be in the relationship anymore. When he says lets take a break, that tells me he just wants you guys to take a break for a little while to see if you really want to be together and then possibly get back together.

Depends on who you ask really... I'd say being friends and taking a break would be different in that if your taking a break you do think you'll be getting back together.

Now personally... taking a break, I think it's all bull... if you guys need to "take a break" then theres something wrong and you two either need to work it out or just end it straight.

Personally a break is the easier way of saying "Lets break up for good". So yes i'd say its the same thing!

No, sadly to say....see you told him,"We should just be friends" in the intent of never getting back with him...right?

When he said,"Your right lets take a break" with (and I'm trying to do a logical guess) the intent of getting back together with you!

Taking a break could mean he wants to try later on to get back together.

Sort of...to a guy...being friends means being friends with benefits...taking a break means the same thing...except with the option of possibly getting back together. Either way, he does not see being with other women as technically cheating.

The response "Yeah, lets take a break" to your questions sounds to me like a death knell. I suspect this is the beginning of the end. If not it sure as hell sounds that way.

Well, it sounds like he wants to keep seeing you and hoping that maybe you will change your mind. He will probably go along with whatever you want right now. Sounds to me like he is not wanting to just be friends. You may need to have a longer talk with him and let him know how you feel and give him a good reason as to why you want to be just friends. :-)
