Hi,! I've been on a low carb diet for about 16 weeks and have never felt better! Basically, I have cut out all sugar, (yes, every amount of sugar!) have changed to wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta and brown rice. I have plenty of fresh fruit and vege, and meat. Tuna and yoghurt, almonds and rice cakes. You need to say goodbye to all the bad fats and hello to the good fats, which are found in lentils, almonds and fish, plus omega 3 oil, and flaxseed oil, (the taste of that is really disgusting but you do get used to it, eventually) No carbs after 4.00 pm.
i have increased my exercise, I walk an hour 3 times a week, plus do weights and I have a fitball routine that I can do at home. (one of those huge gym balls, I think some people call them) they are hard to start with, but the more you do it, the easier it becomes. i also do a bit of taebo (got a couple of dvd's on ebay by billy blanks, they are great!) and I do body combat once or twice a week.
I lost an average of about 500 grams per week, doesn't sound a lot, but it the healthy way of losing weight. i've managed to drop about 7 kilos so far, I've about another kilo to go!!
It is best to seek a nutritionist who can put you on the right path: I have mentioned all the things I eat and exercises I do, they may not be right for you but it gives you a general idea.
Remember too, that you are entitled to one day off where you can 'treat' yourself to a piece of cake, or pretty much whatever you want. the good days have to outweigh the bad days: 6-1. My day 'off' is Sunday, where I treat myself to something I would never normally eat: usually a piece of cake or maybe a sweet cream biscuit (or two) I have found though, that after not eating this kind of stuff for so long, I actually dont need to have a treat day.
It does take a while to get used to the 'change', and I think the first two weeks are definitely the hardest. But once people start noticing the changes it gives you more incentive to keep going! I feel so much better about myself, the first time in a long time I have been comfortable with me!
GOOD LUCK!

I have been on Atkins for almost 3 years. First off your title is wrong. Did you read any of the books? What plan are you going to follow? You need to read about this so you can follow this correctly. Atkins or any low carb diet is NOT no carbs. Can't be unless you eat only meat which certainly isn't healthy. All foods have carbs except meat. However there are amounts of carbs one needs to consider. All naturally occuring white foods is a good start to avoid, Potatos, white flour, sugar, rice etc. Plus corn (not a vege but a grain--think corn syrup) all these are very very high in carbs and all it does is put weight on you.
I lost 50 pounds but I read alot. You are right it is a lifestyle change and that means start with changing the way you think. If you think, "I am depriving myself" you will not be successful. If you think, "That high carb, high sugar item isn't worth it so I will substitute something else for my sweet tooth" Then you will lose all your weight and keep it off for ever or as long as you remain faithful to this WOE (way of eating)
I never cheat! I do not cheat because I do not want too not because I can't. I love being able to go to the closet and pull out anything in it and it fits. I love knowing I have more energy that I know what to do with. I love the fact that in 2 1/2 years I have not had heartburn as I use to live on tums, I love the fact that I rarely get sick anymore.
I visit www.lowcarbfriends.com every day. This site has made it possible for me to continue this woe comfortably and correctly. But pick your plan and read read read. Go to the library. I do Atkins but my sister does South Beach. They are all basically the same.
Personally until you reach your goal weight stay away from bread! Once you have lost your weight you can add foods in like wheat bread but only if the bread has large pieces of grains in it otherwise it is not better than white bread as all good stuff has been milled out.

I stayed on the low carb diet for over a year and lost 70lbs. You got it right it is a life style change and if you go in with that thought you will do much better. Remember that you subtract the fiber grams from the total carb grams to get the net carb count. If you follow Atkins style you limit yourself to no more than 20grams of carbs for the first two weeks to reset your body to burn fat. then you gradually increase the carb amounts until you stop losing weight then you figure out the max carbs you can have and still lose weight. The most important thing however is exercise, exercise, exercise, I suggest you get the Atkins book to get a complete explanation for how it works and it does work. I eat more less carbs and I don't feel hungry all of the time and I don't think about food like I used to. All of my blood work has improved and my blood pressure is back to normal. My doctor urged me not to do Atkins but after I lost the weight and he saw the results he was impressed. GOOD LUCK oh I lost almost 10 pounds my first two weeks then about 1.5-2lbs a week after that. No sugars and only whole grains. NO white enriched flower products

Carb diets are great. I'm currently on Atkins. Atkins gets a bad rap sometimes, because people go off the diet and gain weight back. The truth is that Atkins and lower carb diets are a lifestyle change, not a way to loose weight quickly and then give it up.
If you have 75 pounds too loose, then the first couple of weeks with lower carbs, you will drop between 8-15 pounds. This is mostly water. Your body converts carbs to glucose and this forces fat cells to retain water. Thus, when you reduce their intake, you loose alot of water retention. Keep in mind that you should not completely eliminate carbs from your diet, but you do have to restrict how many you eat in a day. For more detailed information, there is a great site I recommend;

Good luck!

Consuming carbs only is surely no longer ultimate. Breakfast is the only meal the place which you could particularly get away with that. You want to devour a maxtrix of carbs some which are low GI and high fiber like from entire oatmeal and others from simple sugars observed in fruits. It's tough to remain convinced for long without some protein. You must try to get some protein in earlier than lunch with a mid-morning snack even supposing it can be just a tough boiled egg

Your body needs carbs for energy, the problem is with the carbs that are processed foods ie white bread, sugary stuff, pasta. You can eat complex carbs like whole wheat bread or pasta and fresh fruits. Also, we tend to eat really big portions here in American, and you would be amazed to learn what healthy portions really are. Check out Dr. Mehmet Oz's book-You on a Diet. Also losing weight really fast is a bad idea. Exercise and changing your eating habits for life is the only way to keep it off.

I did the atkins low carb diet after reading the book,I think you should read the book to understand how carbs put weight on us and how they eventually cause disease, high blood pressure, diabetes ect.If you follow the book cutting out almost all carbs you can loose five pounds a week,as your body actually starts burning your stored fat.I personally lost 20 lbs in six weeks.I try to avoid carbs now I had HBP and its fine now.Good luck to you.

I lost 40lbs in about 10 weeks. Of course you need to eat healthy. Also eat foods that are low in fat and high in protein. Eat more but smaller meals a day. Eat you fruits like apples. Remember to avoid the white foods like potatos, rice bread, pasta. You really need to get your metabolism into high gear. Increase your water intake. You need to do some excercise as well. If you can walk 30,000 steps in a day would be good or if you can walk on a treadmill.
The first 2 weeks of dieting youdo have the potential to lose 10lbs.
Good luck.

Many people ask me how they can slim down. I recommend that people eat right and exercise. However, if they would like a little "help", I suggest using natural Hoodia (it's important to note that not all Hoodia works well, even if the bottle says "pure" or "standard").
The Hoodia sold at http://tinyurl.com/y389on is in my opinion the best Hoodia on the market. It's pure, has no side effects, and they give you a free 15 day sample (there is a $7.99 shipping and handling charge, but they also give you free recipe and diet guides). Fantastic results have been seen with this particular Hoodia.
