the name Bloody Mary refers to Queen Mary the First of England, eldest child of Henry VIII. She was a staunch Catholic and launched a ruthless and bloody campaign against the protestants.

No, I think it might have been named after Mary, Queen of Scots, who had the nickname Bloody Mary. If I recall, she was Catholic and fought against the Protestants (or was it the other way around). A Virgin Mary drink is just a Bloody Mary without the alcohol and has nothing to do with religion either.
