Depends upon the burn. 1rst degree (skin is red, hot and NOT blistered) will respond well to air, cool washrags and an over the counter type burn cream. Try not to wear tight clothes over the burned area and (this sounds odd) increase your vitamin C for a few days.
Second degree burns are the same as first degree only will have blistered area's. Second degree burns should be treated like first degree but don't pop the blisters, and a mixture of 2 tsp baking soda to a cup of water in a squirt bottle will help the itching as well. The doctor can also give you some good burn ointment, but it requires a prescription.
Third degree of any size should be seen by a doctor immediately. Third degree burns are white in color, the skin appears dead and doesn't hurt all that bad.

Apply polysporin, keep area moist, do not irritate the scab. Do not scrub area in shower, a simple rinse should keep it clean.
I found that if you crush a tylenol tablet and mix with water to make a paste, and apply to area, it takes away any itching and discomfort, this also works for bug bites too. A little home remedy that actually works.

I've read that honey has healing and antimicrobial agents. Apply honey to the burn and cover with a bandage.

lavender essential oil about a 2:1 ratio mixed with olive oil will speed the healing extremely quickly. You can also put tea tree oil on without being mixed.
