I believe in gravity, too. And the postal service. Why don't you look up religion in a dictionary rather than just making up your own ridiculous definition?

Religion is far more than just believing in something. I believe that my Mom, my husband, and my dog love me, but that doesn't mean that that is my religion.
Why is there such an insistence that atheism is a religion?
It's not. It's not even a belief. It's UNbelief.
Do you define your religion by UNbelief? If you don't believe in the evolutionary theory, does that make your religion a-evolutionism?
Personally, I think that there is a drive to have atheism classified as a religion so that scientific theories can be classified as "religious doctrine" and they can prevent the teaching of evolution in public schools.
But that will not work, because there are lots of *religious* people like myself who see through that tactic.:

Actually (and this is coming from an atheist) having some sort of religion is the default. Mankind wants to have some reassurance that there is something after death. This explains why a huge majority of people believe in some kind of god or deity.
However, it is also mankind's nature to question. This leads to things like scientific inquiry, and the rejection of religious theory.

Well, not really.
Atheism is not a belief, but the _absence_ of belief in an invisible god. This non-belief isn't really a belief at all, just observation, collection of data, and analysis. It could be called a theory, if anything.
A religion is a _practice_ based on belief- not just belief. Since atheists neither believe nor practice any religious habits, atheism cannot be considered a religion.

Religion is following a prescribed set of beliefs determined by a central authority and in most cases defers to a supernatural being. Religions, on the whole, resist anything that challenges those prescribed beliefs.
Atheism doesn't do that.

Your opinion does not change the definition of a word. Atheism is not a religion, it is simply the lack of belief in gods or deities. Atheists may be part of another religion that simply lacks deities, but atheism is not a religion.

No. Atheism is not-believing. It's the default position. We aren't born knowing about gods or religions--we must be told about them. A baby doesn't "believe" in anything, yet it is an atheist because it hasn't been taught that there's such a things as gods to believe in.

It's really difficult to take you seriously when you type like a hyper thirteen year old girl on her cell phone text messenger.
Also: Get a dictionary. Atheism is lack of belief in gods. It does not imply a religion.
