When I hear from somebody that they lost tons of weight just by walking, I get the urge to slap them. That was the problem? That's how you gained all that weight, by simply stopping movement? I wonder how on earth they could have adopted a lifestyle that involves no walking.

And come to think of it, when I hear from people who lost tons of weight through gastric bypass surgery, I want to slap some sense into them too. Oh, so the problem was, eating too much at once? That's a novel idea... So you went out and got damn surgery?

Bring on the thumbs down... i had to be honest here...

i wouldn't really care, but obesity doesn't just affect the obese person, it affects the people who love them, too.

I don't mean this to come across as a personal attack on you but it will probably appear that way in print. Is your life really so perfect that you can't even understand why someone with depression or feelings of rejection or a whole host of other negative feelings would use food (or cigarettes, drugs, booze, or any sort of crutch) as a way to escape those feelings? You should count your blessings if it is, you are fortunate.

Most obese people *want* to lose weight and battle with their food addiction each day, even at each meal. If solving their weight problem simply meant putting down the fork, if there were no emotional issues attached to the act of overeating, there would be no obese people in the world.

Well honey you are going to want to slap me, because I lost 40lbs by walking. It's not that I had stopped movement, its just that I increased it severely. and not just regular blase' oh look at the flowers its a pretty sky walking no I'm talking about intense physical power walking where you are squeezing your butt cheeks with each step and really raising your heart rate from like 112 to 170 in less than 3 min walking. Now I have included weight training in my work out because it firms your muscles as you lose weight but you can lose weight just by walking because its cardio and cardio is what burns fat. I knew a woman like you and she wanted to do the same thing to me and I smiled in her face and asked her to walk with me one day she wanted to quit a half a block into it. So are you going to hell, no. Are you jealous. . . .definately!

It is okay Caroline...no thumbs down from me...I am always for people being openly honest...if gives us a true inside view of the what the other person is about...thumbs up for that...but I gotta tell ya....it ain't looking to perty....and to think "all ya had to do" was just be a little less critical, judgemental and have a more informed understanding of other peoples walks in life...but I understand....it is not your fault....everyone has shortcomings.

Thanks for being so revealing...Thumbs up!

it's a major problem - having one hole that's bigger than the other...

surgery can't help them, it's mental help they need, habits are brain-led, not uncontrollable muscle action from plate to mouth...

Proper counselling, habit breaking (like stopping smoking, same deal), that's the fix - oh yeah, and a large helping of will power.

Spending lots of time walking WILL help, as long as you don't take snacks along for the ride, and you stay out for most of the day. (I do mean get some excersise though...)

No thumbs down from me - however, you could've put the question better, it's kind of irrelevant, nobody goes to hell. Like heaven, it only exists in peoples minds.

I agree with what you are saying for the most part but some people just can't help it. some have medicial problems that causes their food to be digested wrong and make the body produce fat.
