Rent or mortgage and food are always going to be there, job or no job. The important thing is how you feel about getting uo every day and going to work. If you are unhappy in your work, look for better work, or for something that you like netter. Don't quit what you are doing until you have something better. It may be that your employer would change your position back to something you were happy with to keep you. Then, again don't jump until you have something to jump into.

People have been at jobs longer than 4 years and have changed careers. Go for it if you want.

Make sure you have a backup before you do a "career change". Lots of people do that without thinking. Like you said.. You have bills to worry about.

in my opinion
i think after 4 years in this job you would be highly qualified and this change in position could mean better things to come in the future. I say tough it out for as long as u can. If you are not sure about it then i suggest u ask ur boss about it,

if you are still happy at your work place and the people you work with, why change? It's not easy to adjust to others and maybe you wont like the new job.. then that's another problem.

when you can do your job with closed eyes it is definitely time to change to another job. If you were offered another position you should take it, it is good to change routines.

You should do what makes you happy. That is my idea of a career, something you have fun at while getting paid.
