To all the people who said they think smacking is fine;

If all the psychiatrists, psychologists, children's services and health professionals who have spent years researching children to find that smacking is so very detrimental to emotional and social development;

Why do YOU think you know better?

cutting your won leg off is personal choice but I am sure you'd listen to the doctor if he advised a tubigrip

Having an aresehole does not make one a proctologist

Most parent are not experts on children either, so why would you listen to a doctor of medcine but not a doctor of child psychlogy?

Most researchers in child development do have children
The reason we know so much nowadays is because more and more mothers are entering the field.

Spanking is a personal choice for some parents. Not yours for the world.

One phrase for you,

'spare the rod and spoil the child'

Not that I'm advocating a cat 'o nine tails or anything as drastic!
;)

Spanking is bad, but a light smacking is fine, how else is a child supposed to learn that when they've been really bad there will be repercussions...?

Noone knows a child better than its parents, sometimes a smack is necessary. My friends have a delightful happy little tot, who is always laughing and smiley, but he is extremely thick skinned emotionally and physically, so very ocassionally a smack is the only answer if he's been bad - if administered with love and reconciled afterwards, there is no harm in a light physical admonition.

Who are the State to tell us how to raise our children anyway, they're making enough mess of the rest of the country without focusing on being a nanny state as well!

How i parent is up to me and who would really cut their own leg off?
I did pull my own teeth but that was when i was little with baby teeth.
Most people that do that researching dosen't even have kids so how do they know how kids act?
Whooping and beating are 2 different things and if you do it out of love it is fine just ask the law. That is exactly what they said on the news last night.

Hey, if you want to pull your own tooth or cut your leg off it is STILL NONE OF MY BUSINESS. Just like if someone chooses to discipline their child with spanking is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. I am not promoting beating, but come on, a swat to the butt does wonders sometimes. Get over yourself.

I used to be hit with a wooden spoon when I was a kid! I don't blame my parents for it and am not remotely upset by it! I have not been effected negitivly at all, in fact, quite the opposite, I think it did me good.

And what the hell has it got to do with surgery. Off course I wouldn't do surgery on myself, but then I'm not a qualified doctor. If I was then I might! Your a muppet! I bet you voted labour!

I'll take results with a 1000+ year history, over researchers (with a agenda) any day!!!

Go ahead and do what you will, I'll stick with what works.
