my grandparents on my mothers side lived in England so I have never met either of them and my grandmother passed away when I was little, I remember her as sweet, kind and gentle, and my grandfather was an awful man but made me laugh. I didn't know them well but what memories I have is of hugs and laughter these things are belssings. My own parents are grandparents to my children and I can say to the kids they are a wonderful blessign but to a mother they are a pain, always sneaking lollies to the kids, and stealing all their hugs and kisses, of course I am being light-hearted, they adore their grandparents, because they are so patient and helpful, they are more cuddly than mum, their cooking is sweeter than mums, and they are just generally wonderful people. Of course there are the cranky ones, but I think deep down every child has a soft spot for their granparents as they make parents bearable lol.

Not to sound corny but, I always enjoyed my grandparents for the stories they could tell me. My Granny used to corner us when she visited and make us learn a new word. That was always scary but I think it made me better with words.

I AM a grandparent now and am really involved with my three granddaughters by babysitting four days a week sleeping at their house three nights. I wouldn't miss it for the world! And I am pretty sure they kinda like me! :o)

I think when they become a "pain" is when they are old and not too sharp anymore. They need your help or your parents help and it may take away from what you really want to do. I think it's our duty to help and doing it willingly and with love is all the better.

Now is the time to ask your parents about your grandparents so you can preserve some of the meories and experiences that they had for your own (someday) children. It's the "telling" of your history!

Cool Q, thanks!

An absolute blessing without a doubt. They are so full of knowledge that our generation lacks and they are always comforting when you need it most! I have to rely on my memories now as mine are all gone. My kids are blessed with wonderful, caring grandparents on both sides and enjoy a very close relationship with all of them. On the kind of funny side, we live next door to my parents and when I make a dinner my kids don't care for, they call my mom and ask what she is having. They love spending time with my dad and my in laws have always been a big part of their lives. I am only sorry for you that you aren't able to remember yours.

Grandparents are a blessing. I miss mine a lot. When I was a child they were always there when my mother was being a witch and they made me forget all about her.

My grandparents were wonderful people who taught me many things I still remember to this day. People can not be lumped together some are great like mine, some are horrible, most somewhere in the middle.

a definate blessing. like youy, i never knew mine, so as a child I went around africa (as my father filled contracts) trying to adopt or gain favour by doing chores for grannies who looked kind hearted. even though they were not related to me by blood, the wonderful memories of kindness and love i have of these strangers will be with me for the rest of my life. somehow they must have known what was missing within me, and touched my soul eternally. hope this helps
