Most countries in Europe (I think all) use 220 volts, in the USA 110 is the standard, I think taht all of the rest has either the one or the other.

And so that is how up to this time we are using a 220V 60Hz electrical supply in our homes.

Actually, most countries do use 220 volts. I'm not sure what drove 110V, but it isn't very smart.
