This is a helpful little hint that works AND is way cheaper. I don't want to get the "Yahoo Answer Police" all pi$$ed off, so I'l tell it in a form of a question. And then you quys can share YOUR helpful hints.
Instead of paying zillions of dollars for hair ball medicine (If you have more than a couple of cats it could be that much,) Take a dab of vasaline and put it on a front paw. They like the taste of it and lick it off themselves. So much easier and less painful than trying to give it yourself. The question is, has anyone tried this? It's pretty neat.

we have a 32 pound maine coon, and when he gets a hairball we put butter on his paw and that works too. Think about it what would you rather taste vasiline or butter.
