If memorizing is your problem, just try these. They both always help me.

My first technique is read it, write it, read it, write it. This is my
template that means you read your notes over, write them on a separate sheet of paper, read your re-created notes and then write them again (mind you, I am in university. If a student was in junior or senior high, they might only have to read it and write it once respectively.)

My second technique is a bit of an excentric one. In 1243 BC, there was a man named Cicero (si-ser-row) who believed that if you wrote something that you needed to remember somewhere on your body, it would sink into your bloodstream while you slept and you would remember it from the time you awoke to the time you died. I tried this and it worked! I would reccomend only trying this with minimal writing and a ball point pen. It worked for me like a charm and I still do it when a big test is coming up.

It seems that your problem is 'memorizing'. If I understand you correctly then my suggestion would be: please write, write, and write and all your initial practice has to be by 'writing' the characters. This is how the learning process of a language starts. A child is given a 'practice book' and is then asked to do repeat writing of alphabets, words and sentences. Please do it and do it with full confidence. You will definitely make it, I am sure. Best of luck.

Try to make rhymes, like say it's round, but squiqqly, then you say: squiqqly and round must mean:found or something like that to study better and memorise it better.Sorry, but I cant really help you seeing as I have never studied Japanese, but it's worth the try, hey?
