I've had the same problem. If you still have the home kit and there is still hair color left, add a few highlights to the darker side. If you don't, there are several things you can do.
1. Buy more of the same haircolor and do what I said above.
2. Use a shampoo and conditioner for the opposite hair color (If you highlighted it with blonde, use a shampoo and conditioner meant for a brunette) Suave has great, inexpensive products that work. Wash it three times, same day, and do it the same way each time - it'll turn out perfect.

Best of luck to you!

The side that is darker was the last bit you did, it didnt process long enough, you need to apply more on that side only and only leave for a short time testing it every few minutes (get a piece of cotton wool and wipe of the bleach and look at the strands and see how it is processing, if more needed apply more colour to the strand) when you have got colour you want, wash it off and it will match other side. Lesson here is leave it to the professionals! Good luck

Seriously, go to a hairdresser.
I highlighted my hair once. My sister and I were using the same kit, where you make holes in the plastic cap and pull strands of hair through to bleach.
I put the smae cap on myself after doing hers, and got bleach spots all over the back of my hair. Derr!
