Of course, most people still have the stereotype of what a witch or a wiccan is. But then again most people have stereotypes of some other group that is hard to get by. Try not to look at it as a personal attack but instead an opportunity to inform someone else of who we really are and what we stand for. Perhaps they will listen. If they don't want to listen just be happy that the Lord and Lady welcome you and that your faith satisfies you.

I can relate to this in some degree because I consider myself Spiritual and not of any religion. Even though; I personally hold many beliefs that are contained in Christianity. and some other religions, I do not agree with some of what is claimed to be as Biblical truth.
I am not saying that it is "wrong" because I do that any belief/truth held by another is wrong for it is truth to the believer. I feel no matter what a person believes in then it is always right and is the truth to the individual.
I do not see God as the God that is portrayed in the Bible. I am not saying that it is wrong for when someone believes it as such then it is so.
Sure I have heard references to my arrival into hell and so on.
I look it this way: Over the span of human history, one can surely be certain of a large number of religions that where in existence and are in existence today.
A majority of them claim to be "right" and the others are wrong.
If this statement is such then I say the average person has some challenging odds to overcome in order to hope they are in the one "right faith" Then I would probably assume that if God followed this method without much concrete evidence then it appears to me that the so called "damnation" is going to become rather populated!

If they had a big pentacle, they were violating the "Witch's Pyramid", namely, To Know, To Will, To Dare, To Keep Silent. Broadcasting to the world you're a Wiccan is far from "keeping silent".
I had a jackolantern smashed by some teenagers a few Hallowe'ens ago, I guess that makes me a persecuted Christian.

Well... here is a question.
I live in the bible belt. I have lived in big cities. Most folks in the big cities mind their own business. Bible belt seems to attract busy bodies.
Yes, I've hit discrimination. But you know what, I don't advertise. No need to... it's none of their business. And those who do discriminate are not worth my time.
Why do we bother with buttheads? We do not proselytize, it is not our way. So why are we hanging things outside our house when you know that in some cases it will attract the kind of attention you don't want?
I have lived peacefully in my home for many years with no issues about what I practice. I allow people to get to know me before they get to know my religion. In many cases, it is a non-issue. And for those who it is an issue, it doesn't matter. They are not involved in my life, and I don't involve myself in theirs.
I do not shove my spirituality in their face, I don't make it a point of insulting anyone's religion, and I certainly don't walk around with a huge pentacle scaring the local morons.
So, it's all a matter of attitude. Yes, if asked, I will discuss it, but no, I don't make it a point of discussing it with anyone who comes along. I don't look for confrontation, and I don't find it. There is so much more that needs to be done, why waste time on those who are closed minded and stupid.

Sure, that is life. Most of us have become rather thick skinned and just let it roll off. The thing that hurts is when people whom you thought were friends turn their backs because you are not Christian! Bad thing is I am Pecti-Witan (Hedge Witch) and follow Buddhist philosophy! I told them about the Buddhist part. I am afraid if I told them I was a witch they would burn my house down (preferably with me in it)! This forum is probably the worst. I feel like people should come here with an honest desire to learn something, not to bash others. It seems like there are some (not just Christians) who's only purpose is to criticize and degrade others based on what they believe or don't believe.

What you descibe is neither persecution nor harassment, it's called life. The vast majotity don't realy care one way or the other what others do, but a lot of people seem to like feeling they are being persecuted for their beliefs. Don't make an excuse out of it.
Sorry to hear about the pentacle, but someone flattened my garden wall. It's called vandalism.

I'm not Wiccan, but I am pagan and no, I have not experienced "persecution" by christians. More than anything, they seem to be afraid of me, and think that I am in league with their devil. It's sad, really.
I do know of pagans who have been the subject of incidents like you've described and yes, they were perpetuated by christians.. fear can make people do some horrific things.

A couple points I'd like to make:
1. The pentacle is not restricted to use by the wiccans; it predates them by a grand margin as well.
2. The pentacle could have been smashed by other pagans... thoughts like "oh, look at that... they are SUCH posers, wannabes, etc". I used to be around people like that so I know that they exist.
3. ... *sorry, I left*

I'm not a Wiccan but I go to a spiritualist church occasionally and have had people laugh at me and poo poo my beliefs, but I just ignore them as people who persecute you for your beliefs are bigots and narrow minded, they need to take the blinkers off and see the whole picture, if they can't see or touch something then as far as they are concerned its fake or hogwash, stick with your beliefs and principals, enjoy been a Wiccan and ignore the bigots.

my mother-in-law asking about Yule:
so, do you get naked and dance around a fire or something?
my answer:
no, mom! it's too cold for that! we save the naked dancing for the summer.
(mortifying my mormon mother-in-law)
my grandparents asked me why I was worshiping the devil! I told her I forgave her.
she didn't know what she was being forgiven for. oh well.
the best part about being a pagan is the variety of beliefs out there, and for the most part, pagans will support other pagans such as wiccan or eclectic for example, they might not practice the different practices, but it's a very supportive pagan community.
this has been my experience anyway.
