My 2 year old son is the same he on 3 pints of milk a day, also from a bottle he wont drink from anything else. he goes to fridge and gets the milk out himself and has a fit if i dont give him it, i have tryed fridge locks (not any good). i would also say milk is better than juice. i have put my son on semi skimmed milk instead of full fat, he is a big boy as it is, gonna get him onto pasturised milk soon. hope this helps, xxxxx

Which part are you concerned about? The 3.5 pints of milk or the bottle?

If it is the bottle then you can try using the "bottle fairy" method. Get a basket and before your son goes to bed tell him it's time for him to stop drinking bottles because he is a big boy now and the "bottle fairy" is going to come tonight and take his bottles and give them to little babies who need them. Then have him help you put the bottles in the basket for the bottle fairy. While he is sleeping take the bottles out of the basket and leave him with some new sippy cups for big boys. This worked so well with my toddler that I was blown away.

If you are concerned about the milk then I only have one thing to tell you: You are the parent and you have to decide what he drinks. If you wean him off the bottle he might drink less milk and more juice and water. He is drinking a lot of milk everyday and while milk isn't bad for him per sey he is probably pretty full from milk and doesn't eat a variety of nutritious food, Plus milk can be so constipating.

Try offering a sippy cup instead of a bottle. He may associate milk with a bottle and would be more open to drinking juice or water from a cup.

Good Luck.

Milk is a HUGE contributor to the development of brain cells. So drinking whole milk unless otherwise indicated by your peditrician, is a good thing. I would definetly check with your pediatrician on the amount he is drinking/should be drinking per day though. Try and get a juicer and make fresh juice for him, it is something that maybe he could even help you do!! Let him pick the fruits out at the store, incorporate some veggies in it, he will be in seventh heaven if he thinks he helped make this great concoction, that mommy (and daddy?) can drink with him. I think your bigger concern is that he is 2 1/2 and still takes a bottle. When my son was 1 1/2 I took the bottle and said "no more" and we bought sippy cups--he never cried for one, and never took one after that. You need to focus on taking the bottle away--it is more of comfort than necessity at this point. They have a variety of toddler cups that you can purchase that help to ease the transition. Good Luck!!

first of all, all of the people saying that 2 is too old to have a bottle is RUBBISH. my son is 21 months and has a bottle of milk about 3 times a day, sometimes more. however he does have juice, water and milk in a cup with a straw. try your son with juice in a cup with a straw, it might make it more fun and dont tell him off if he spills it because that will put him off trying a cup. he is drinking a bit too much milk though, they do recommend 1 pint although i think 2 pints is more like it. another good tip is put some watered down juice in a cup (one with a spout or without, just make sure its not on your best carpet if its without!) and put it somewhere he can reach it then busy yourself doing something and slyly watch him so he doesnt notice. hopefully he will be curious and try it! i know a little boy who was drinking from a beaker (sippy cup) at 4 months whereas my son took no interest til about a year. no 2 children are the same!

You don't say if he is eating ok? Perhaps he needs a bit more solid food. I would say that 3 and half pints is far too much milk to drink at age two, although there are lots of two year olds still using a bottle.
I think you should try and wean him off all this milk, and as a suggestion........add a tiny amount of water to the bottle. Very gradually increase the water so that he dosn't notice...ie extremely slowly.
Don't worry abt the bottle yet. You can always buy the first stage cup and give him a choice of using it, but I wouldn't rush it....it'll come.
Suggest getting those bottles of ready (juice) drinks in supermarkets as children seem to love them, and putting it out with the milk/water offering as I think he'll try it eventually (just keep offering both and don't say anything if he dosn't try the juice). He'll get there eventually.

dont allow him that much milk. Milk is good for kids although it fill you up and he is probably not eating as much food as he should. Also he needs to get off the bottle. He will not starve if you pull him from the bottle. Go get some sippy cups and start him on them. Throw all the bottles away one night and the next day tell him the bottle monster came and took them all and let him only the sippy cups. Make sure they are new ones still in the package and let him pick which one he wants. Then have him start drinking water and juice too. Do not allow him to have milk until after he has eaten. I used the "monster" for all 4 of my kids for the bottle and diapers. It worked great.

Its brill hes drinking milk my little girl still drinks up to 2 pints a day its good for them, but he should really have a cup not bottle as this can affect his teeth, try getting him to drink out of a cup and call it a big boys cup make lots of emphasise on it and say nothing when he has his bottle then after a techniqe i used was to buy my daughters favourite magazine and ask her which one she wanted her bottle or magazine, she picked the mag so i said she could have it but had to throw all her bottles in the bin she did and when she asked for her bottle i just reminded her she threw it away, never touched one since but still drinks lots of milk.a child of 3 should be taking in atleast a pint a day so your sons doing finebuy cups with his favourite character like thomas or bob builder this should also encourage him.xxp.s as long as he's getting enough food the amount of milk is fine if he isnt try introducing water.hope this is helpful.xx

You need to break him from that bottle. It can cause problems with his teeth. What I would suggest is throw out all bottles and get the sippy cups that has a soft drinking spout. Milk can make him anemic too if he drinks an excessive amount and is not eating enough. You need to talk to his pediatrician about that because Im not sure how much is too much. Good Luck and don't give in

The milk is fine...I would be using 2% milk though. Whole milk is quite a bit of fat. The bottle is another issue.....he is 2....it is high time you put him on a sippy cup. The longer you let him have that bottle, the longer he will want it. I am a firm believer in just taking it away. Yes, he is going to cry for it, but you have to be the parent. You tell him....No, your milk is in the sippy cup....he may refuse, oh well, he will get thirsty enough that he will take the sippy cup. Trust me, allowing him to make the rules will get you no where.

You let you're 2 year old still have a bottle?? Why haven't you broke him yet? He's way too old to be on a bottle. As far as him only drinking milk, too much isn't good. He needs other things like juice and water.
