Patron for $110 in a local store? Should I try it? Monte Alban was a little cheaper, would you rate that?

Patron is by far the best, worth the money.

Patron for $110. I going to guess you're in Canada. There are 2 levels of patron available here, Silver and Reposada. Reposada should be what you're getting for that much. It's a sipping Tequila, not meant for shots. Definitely worth the money to an aficionado.

Interesting article I found..

Just a thought 2001 buying guide is 6 years old and based on 7 year old research. If you want paid for buying guides go current.
Seriously don't be fooled by Magazine published guides and ratings. I manage a fine wine and spirits shop, liquor reps throw money and bottles around like water. Everybody has an agenda.

Best advice. Decide if you can afford it. Buy it, try it and decide if you like it enough to keep it near for special sips.

Patron is really good, but I think Monte Alban is just as good for the price difference. . . .Try both at a local bar, most around me have both, or at least one or the other. . .Try a shot for like $6 before you waste $110 on a bottle that you might not like! :)

I would recommend the Casa Noble Reposado, less than half the price of Patron, with a mature flavor to back it up. Here is a description from Wine Enthusiast Annual when it listed Casa Noble Reposado "Best of Year" for 2001:

"Matured in French oak for a full year. Mature scents of brine, forest herbs and lead pencil, plus soft caramel, mild oak, herbal agave and sea salt. Intensely sweet at palate entry, but more vegetal than oaky or caramelly. The midpalate is laden with sweet, light toffee and candied-nut flavors. The finish offers toast, caramel and resin."

You should try Tequila "Don Julio" Añejo. Really good and should be around 40-50 US dollars.

Uh... if you have the money, sure by all means try it. I've tried Patron Reposado and I think it's over-rated. You should definitely, definitely check out http://www.pocotequila.com or http://www.bevmo.com to see what's out there and what people think of it.

I can definitely recommend Don Julio though.

go with the don julio. the thing about patron is just like with grey goose vodka. it is a quality product but is way over marketed. Neither one are the "best" that there is to offer so again i refer you to don julio and for the quality that it is you won't be disappointed ! be safe and enjoy!
P.S. when consuming have it chilled or on the rocks. It will be 10 times smoother.

I was always told the best kind had a worm in the bottle. I don't drink tequila (I'm a Jack Daniels drinker) so I wouldn't know which kind was best.

Everything is individual taste, the price can have a bit to do with it, but not always. Anejo's are aged and smooth. I believe you will like them. Herradura is also nice, and moderately priced. Cabo Wabo is also good. Approvéche y salud!
