I hardly ever see anyone from the Military complaining abut the war, it's always the pencil pushers and people that did not sign up for the armed forces. Dont forget each and every military person in the US armed forces SIGNED UP and took an oath that they would defend this country at all cost they chose to be there. I am proud of our troops and what they stand for, but I am embarrassed by the big mouthed pencil pushers that wouldn't wear a uniform no matter what to defend this country. Do you agree?

No, not at all I disagree wholeheartedly. First, you say why do people not in the military speak out against the war, because it is their right as citizens of this country. It is our tax dollars that are financing this catastrophe that give every taxpayer compelling reason to speak out against an illegal war. Also, unless your in the military your a bit of a hypocrite to say anything regarding the military your self.

No I don't agree. How was attacking Iraq a means of defending the US? Iraq couldn't have attacked the US in a million years.

So you are proud that US soldiers are dying every day for you, a pencil pusher, simply because Bush was unhappy about Saddam insisting that his oil was sold in Euros and not dollars through the UN oil for food program. What a worthy cause that is to die for. If you are so brave why don't you go and put your life on the line just so that the big financial institutions can further line their pockets with blood money?

Being prior military, I can understand your anger and share some of it with you. I also understand that so many American soldiers in so many past conflicts have died so that we could all have the right to speak our minds. I don't always agree with the opinions that other people have on Iraq but I'm glad this is a country that allows people to look at all sides of the point. I appreciate everything our troops do for our country. I think when it comes down to it, Americans would do whatever it takes to defend their country and what it stands for.

A better question would be: "Why do the people who have actually served in Iraq generally support what we are doing there?"

The fact of the matter is that the news media has created public opinion on the war. Most people's opinions about the war are what the news media told them.

People who do not have to rely on the news media for information about the war have a better understanding of the whole story and as a result - support what we are trying to do.

I agree, for the most part. I have a son that is a Marine, and he is clamoring to get the chance to do time in Iraq. He wants to go over there, but doesn't agree with the fact that we are even there. Nor do some of his buddies. But it's their job, and they will do it to the absolute best of their ability. So, not everyone that complains is on the outside.

The people you see out of uniform, civilians, that you hear are opposed to the war are most likely registered voters. And there are still some that complain that aren't registered voters. The very fact that those of us that are registered to vote, and exercise that right to, have a license to complain. Basically, what I'm saying is if you don't vote, shut up and sit down! (Excluding those ineligible to vote due to age. Noone else has a valid excuse.)

I have talked to many people who are former service members who are against the war. Generally these are the people who believe the war is wrong for one reason or another, but also believe that we must see it through to the end. This opinion is honest enough and they should not be overly criticized for it. The contention that annoys me is that when you show support for the war many give you this response of, "Well sign up and go fight it". These people know nothing of my history or service to this country and should not make some broad assumption that because I am not currently serving in Iraq that I have not done my bit for Mom, Apple Pie and the American Way.

"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." (Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962).

The primary duty of enlisted personel is to "support and defend the Constitution of the United States", not to "defend this country at all cost". That is also the primary duty of the President, not to attempt to change or subvert it when it suits him. You would know this if you had served.

No one in the military is going to go on TV or state in public that Bush don't know what he's doing and is wrong, Bush is the commander in Chief and good way to get jailed on a trumped up charge is to say something about the boss.

True, they sign up to defend this country, Invading Iraq was not defending this country, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, there was no terrorist in Iraq before we invaded, Saddam would have cut their heads off, we made the terroists in Iraq.

Because those in the military complain in private, not in public. Those that do complain publicy are even worse, refuse to participate are in legal trouble. According to my boyfriend, who came home recently from Bahrain, many of them don't want to be there, and many are angered over being there and don't understand this war like many of us.

Also, don't believe that everyone over there voluntarily, or joyfully signed up to be there. Many end up in the military because they are facing lots of other horrible options. Its a great deal until you end up losing an arm, or your life. OR, its a great deal until you get out, and have no idea what to do with yourself because you have been told what to do for the last 4 years of your life. Lets be real, and acknowledge that many do not people join the military because they want to defend their country. The military offers options and glorifies them to people who may need them. The 17 year old high school graduate who desperately wants to go to college but can't afford it, or are facing homelessness, or possibly facing jail time for something childish or stupid they did, can easily be sold to the military option. The military recruiters work them the same way a cult leader or a con-artist would work someone who is vulnerable. We have sympathy for those that end up being conned or in cults, but lack sympathy for those that end up in the military because they feel they have no other choice?

Further, I think it really comes down to the idea that people are against death, murder, and subjecting people to that risk. We are not a society that imposes the idea of dying for the greater good or what is percieved as the greater good. Interestingly enough we are fighting against a group inwhich that veiw point is almost inherent. Personally, I do not believe it is conceivably possible to "win" against someone who is willing to give their life for a cause...cuz essentially, you are fighting two completely different battles.

I served, but am complaining about the "WAR"!

It's TOTALLY USELESS for us to be over there! We should ONLY be in Afghanistan at this moment! The U.N. should have handled Iraq if anything!

Bush went into Iraq because of his Dad, and Oil!

With all of the money we (YES WE! Most of us pay taxes to fund this "WAR"!) have wasted in Iraq, we could have built up protection right here in the USA!

We did NOT go into Iraq for humanitarian reasons, that's just the excuse, among others.......

If we wanted to do something TRULY humanitarian related, why didn't we get down to Africa YEARS ago?!?!?!?!?

How much genocide can they stand down there? How many people have to die before we help the truly needy???

What a bunch of crap this Iraq "WAR" is!!!!!

It IS Vietnam II !
