Divination is pretty much defined as making predictions based on interpretation of a particular thing eg necromancy - divination by means of studying the dead or speaking to the dead.

Since Meteorology is technically just interpretation of winds and such to make predictions based upon them, and divination by any means is prohibited by the Judeo-Christian Bible, shouldn't Meteorologists be condemned by the Bible's followers?

Or is it simply that because Meteorology serves an International purpose that it is not condemned?

holy zero - I'm guessing you mean because meteorology is not supernaturally based. But then you'd be wrong for thinking that divination relates to only supernatural methods.

Tim - I said "wind and such" meaning "things relating to wind".

The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines divination as:

1 : the art or practice that seeks to foresee or foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge usually by the interpretation of omens or by the aid of supernatural powers
2 : unusual insight : intuitive perception

By reading this carefully, it appears your definition of divination is incorrect.

By contrast, observing the sky to predict the weather -- either by eye, radar, ect. -- doesn't rely upon omens, supernatural powers, unusual insight, or intuitive perception. Therefore, meteorology is not a form of divination.

The earth is flat; and everything revolves around the world; everything in existence is only 2000 years old; there were no dinosaurs; and with that theory we'd still be in the dark ages. All have been condemned by the Catholic church at some time - so why not put meteorology up there too!

div·i·na·tion (dĭv'ə-nā'shən)
n.
The art or act of foretelling future events or revealing occult knowledge by means of augury or an alleged supernatural agency.

Divination is about the supernatural, Meteorology is about the natural.

There is nothing wrong with using the brains God gave us.
You might want to start using them now before you turn more athiest further away from Christ then they did when they read your question. Meteorology saves lives and you just told athiest from all over the planet that you wish all those whose lives were saved by meteorology were dead.

This is a huge stretch. Divination envolves predicting the futre about anything useing almost anything as a reference. Meteorology not only invloves the past and present, but tries to predict the future within itself, not everything else.

Meteorology is simply the study of climate and weather patterns.

It is much more than just an interpretation of winds. There is the measure of barometric pressure, changes in surface and air temps.

So I suppose if one where to actually claim this as something that is forbidden then I suppose we must stop issuing hurricane and tornado warnings as well!

LOL !

That's a good one.

And by the way meteorological predictions are not done by "interpretation of winds and such".

Well well...

considering your understanding of divination is perverse and untrue... I still consider your question peculiar..

edit: taken from wiktionary.org

divination: preternatural

1. Beyond or different from what is natural, or according to the regular course of things, but not clearly supernatural or miraculous; therefore something which is strange; inexplicable; extraordinary; uncommon; irregular; or abnormal.
