I find it very interesting, the various answers to this question. Good Question !
You could pick and choose from all these ideas, and wonder how close you are, and as time passes, the things that you believe may even change a little.
This is what I believe, ....no one can know God, unless he reveals himself to you. And then, If and when he does, your whole world could be turned upside down: all the things that you believed in and trusted in could be near meaningless. And worst of all most of us and especially those you thought loved you, will not believe you. COUNT THE COST. I will always love you !

God is just a higher being that all cultures create for themselves to use as a parent figure when those in power need to promulgate an opinion that would not be accepted from a mere mortal, or those not in power use to justify a coup against those in power.

Its the same as me asking if you are real! I only know of you by reading about you through your questions. Its the same with God, you can only know him through the Bible. or if you were born into another faith then you will only get to know your god through their holy books.

read ps 83 verse 18. allah is not his name. allah is a false god. God's name is Jehovah. it is also in the king james bible. he is an awesome Father and Friend. we pray to Jehovah threw his son Jesus Christ.
