I have a Maine Coon cat named Marlon. He is an adorable cat but has had alot of health problems, which have affected his disposition slightly.
Maine Coon cats are larger than normal cats, are long haired and have distinctive tufts at the ends of their ears. Although they are long haired their coats are easy to look after and don't need constant grooming (like some other long haired breeds) We brush Marlon about once a week or so, which is more than enough.
They like company and quite often follow you around the house and 'talk' to you. Marlon likes to sleep on my pillow at night, wrapped round my head. Generally they are good natured and playful cats; they are easier to train than standard cats - Marlon is related to the Maine Coon that plays Mrs. Norris in the Harry Potter films!
Try checking out this link for more information on them as a breed http://www.fanciers.com/breed-faqs/maine-coon-faq.html Good luck if you do get one - they are beautiful cats and make lovely pets.

let me clarify something. less than 3% of cats in this complete planet are a breed. meaning less than a million in a a million,000 are Maine Coons. Breeders have a tendency to promote kittens at 12 weeks so the purely way you'll discover one which previous is seeing if any breeders close to you've a retired breeding cat they are desirous to promote. yet those are often bought at basically many years previous. nonetheless it is going to value you a minimum of a few hundred funds. Why ought to or not it is "a minimum of 5 years previous"? And why "ought to" or not it is a Maine Coon? Why not basically flow to a safeguard and undertake a longhaired relatives?

I have 3 and love them dearly. I have 2 girls and one boy and they are all different but very good natured. They are brilliant with kids too. The boy cat is very lazy he just lounges about everywhere but he does like a lot of attention. He has a sooky (an old top of mine) that he wonders around with in his mouth. It is very cute to see because he is a massive cat.
The girls haven't grown as big but they are different to him.
The only down fall i would say is grooming them but that could be because i have 3. They have long hair so it does get everywhere but they are gorgeous and everyone comments on there size when they visit.
I would get one again defiantely, the price varies i got my first two for £250 each and the wee white one for £325.

I know they are really REALLY cute, a friend has one and hes just gorgeous (the cat not the friend LOL), if we didn't already have 5 hairball machines i'd probably get one. I'm tempted though - how cute would a maine coon kitten be :)

i have a maine coon with my two large airdales, he is the ruler of the house taking what ever he pleases from the dogs. he even as went as far as to take the ball and bring it back to me. they are very smart for a cat... to smart at times. they are very loving animals by nature but at the same time are very protective and can get agressive towards other animals... even if the other animal out weighs them... mine likes to take the airdales on from time to time. they are worth gettting and make a great house cat. they are larger then normal cats and do not take alot to maintain them just more food...lol good luck i think you will be very happy if you shall get one.

They are fascinating cats. There are many theories as to how they came to be. I am most amazed at how they lived naturally in the wilds of the State of Maine for so long!!
Someone in our family had one. Funny personality. They think they are human.
Check out the link below-probably the best.
