One concern is that the soil in a potted plant may harbor organisms that could compromise the health of patients - particularly those with immunity issues, or those being treated with immunosuppressant drugs.

Possible allergic reactions have been nominated as a reason as well, but this is not supported by any case studies or research.

Another, even less valid theory is that because plants only produce oxygen during the day, and at night produce carbon dioxide, the air quality in patients rooms may suffer, slowing recovery.

There is now research showing that plants in hospitals significantly improve the prospects of patients, especially those in intensive care wards.

Usually the answer is because of transmission of germs and bacterias...
I think that it is even worse with cut flowers..
Well, of course it depends from wards to wards and the more I think about it the less sense it makes, if you want to know.
But this is the reason they give us.
I mean in a sterile ward, I can understand, not only for the germs but there is also a short of place...
And of course some people have allergies...

First of all because if in sufficient numbers they can suffocate you!
Yes!
During daytime, or when in light, plants consume carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. During night, or when in dark, plants consume oxygen and produce carbon dioxide.
If too many plants are in a room at night they produce so much carbon dioxide they can actually suffocate you.
Furthermore, they are a source of germs (they can not be properly sterilised) and if in jars, the earth in jars can also bring harmful germs.
Third, one might be allergic to a certain plant, flower or simply to polen. A medical condition of certain sort can worsen this allergy simply because the organism is already subjected to stress and to many chemicals from medicines. So an allergic reaction might even prove fatal.
That's why flowers have no place in hospital wards.

Plants hold Bacteria, and that causes serious infectitions to people that their immune systems are done. Try alternate things, like cookies, or Goodie bags.

Mainly because of allergy problems. There used to be some nonsense about them using up the oxygen but hopefully nobody thinks like that now.
