I know I had a military number in 1971. I think it wasn't till '72, that the military went to social security numbers.

I worked for Social Security and we had to get military records frequently. I think they changed to social security #'s in 1956. However, I'm not sure anymore. Why don't you contact a recruiter & ask him to find out for you? If I still worked there I'd look it up for you.

I know for sure it wasn't before 1956 and it wasn't as late as the 80's - 90's.

When FDR passed the Social Security Act in I believe was either 1935 or 1937.

I entered the USAF in July 1969 and was told at that time it had changed and used my SSAN.
